I voted for aliens - it was the first VHS cassette I ever bought, and I watched it repeatedly for about a year. I have always loved Michael Biehn, and although Newt kinda annoyed me, the whole ensemble was great. The slimey "company" guy, the green Lt, the hard-nosed Sergeant. Loved em all.

I always find it surprising when I watch Alien that Sigourney Weaver isn't really in it that much - especially when you consider that she became the driving force behind the sequels.

I agree with Dave's comment's about the high standard of the sequels in comparison to other franchises - and IMO Alien 3 isn't all bad, it's still pretty watchable.
