Any Writers Groups in North Wales?? Does anyone know if there are any writers groups in North Wales? I could do with the support of other aspiring writers to keep me writing otherwise I fall into the pattern of 'I'll just have a night off and do some more tomorrow' which seems to last for weeks at a time! If there aren't any groups, is anyone else interested in starting one?

Re: Any Writers Groups in North Wales?? Funny you should ask this Laerten. I tried to start a Chester and North Wales real life 3D SF/F writers group up here a few years ago. Only one person contacted me and so it didn't take off. Depending on what genre you are into we might at least critique each other and bounce ideas. It is quicker to do the latter face to face but email would be fine. I help run Adventure Books of Seattle (being the British wing) and co-edit Escape Velocity magazine of science fiction and fact. I'm in the BSFA Orbiters crit groups and have one scifi novel published in 2008 with the enigmatic title - Exit, Pursued by a Bee - published by Double Dragon Publishing. Google me for email or pm or reply here. I look forward to hearing from you. Geoff

Re: Any Writers Groups in North Wales?? I'm the type of person who will read anything but prefer reading and writing (trying anyway!) Fantasy. Favourite books by Raymond E. Feist, David Eddings, Trudi Canavan, J. K. Rowling, Frank/Brian Herbert (Dune series). I did try to start a writers group about 5 years ago myself in Denbighshire but I also only had 1 reply - I still have the persons contact details. I have basic outlines for about 12 books, the one I am currently trying to write would be the first of a trilogy.

Re: Any Writers Groups in North Wales?? My novel in progress is a fantasy. Magic realism, based on a real event in 1551 when pirates abducted the population of the island of Gozo. Seems to me their spirits are crying out for revenge ![]() Geoff

Re: Any Writers Groups in North Wales?? I'm going down the prophecy/magical discovery/quest route ending up with a big battle to decide the fate of the continent. The only problem I have is that I think I may have gone a bit overboard with my map! (I seem to have put in every town and village there even if it isn't mentioned in the book).

Re: Any Writers Groups in North Wales?? I know a writers' group in Llandudno, which I think is in Denbighshire. I am friends with a published children's author in that group. He writes kid's fantasy (aren't they all?) but I'm not sure if any of the others do. I can ask him if you like. Geoff

Re: Any Writers Groups in North Wales?? Hi guys, I'm in Chester and eager, nay desperate, for like minded people to converse and bounce ideas with. I write roleplaying games and I'm currently languishing in the doldrums of 4 seperate sci-fi/horror/flintlock fantasy projects. I've realised I'm much more productive in a group... anyone fancy a coffee? ![]() We can start something big here (I'm a design promo junkie) Steff.

| Re: Any Writers Groups in North Wales?? Hello Steff. I live in Chester. Not much use to you though as I am a SF/F short story and novel writer than a role-playing games writer. I would be up for a meet though, over a coffee or whatever. I'm self-employed so can make myself available most afternoons except Mondays, Tuesdays and weekends. Send a pm if you'd like to meet up. | Re: Any Writers Groups in North Wales?? Hello there, Wyndham, there are a couple of readers book groups for SFF in Chester, and some members including me are writers in those genres. At least one member lives in Wrexham. I would like a SFF writers circle and would join you willingly. How about sending me a pm here or get in touch on facebook - I am the only Geoff Nelder there so easy to find - ditto any one else interested in SF reading this. Geoff |
