Star Wars Collectables

Hi,

I was wondering if any fans out there collected any Star Wars memorabilia, whether it be pictures of events they have been to , the busts and statues (that I have started to collect), or any props (for the richer people out there (), etc?

The busts/statues I collect are mainly Gentle Giant and Kotobukiya.

I was considering taking pics of my collection and putting a few words together on why I bought the piece and how good it actually is.

Anybody else

Re: Star Wars Collectables

Most of my collection is the books with a few of the olf toys from when i was growing up. I recently (2003) got into the collectables side of things with the Code 3 models. I collect gentle Giant, Sideshow, Attakus Metal and Master Replicas but not all items. I like to pick anc choose. I would have said that my focus was on Boba Fett and the Millennium Falcon.

Unfortunately, my collection is all boxed away as i'm decorating my house and it's taking forever. Are you a member of the Rebelscum collecting web page?

Re: Star Wars Collectables

Hi Rodders,

I'm not a member of Rebelscum, but do have it as a link. I have several links to different websites that are based in the U.S but tend not to purchase due to the usual £20 postage costs and the possible VAT customs charge (and then the cheeky £8 holding fee that Parcelforce charged me for holding the item!).

I mainly purchase from Forbidden Planet and Forbidden Planet International. I find that both companies are very good Forbidden Planet have a very good returns policy (which works).

I will attempt to photo a couple of items and post them on the site this weekend.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: Star Wars Collectables

I Joined late last year mostly for the forums which i find quite interesting. My collection is listed (but no photos) under gurgeh. It's an expensive hobby 30 years old now. I'm not sure what my next purchase is going to be. I'd have liked to have been able to get the efx X-Wing, but couldn't afford it as my credit card has taken a beating over the last couple of years and i've decided to pay it off completely.

You obviously like Star Wars. Is there anything else that you're into?

Re: Star Wars Collectables

Collecting is restricted to Star Wars.

As I am into most Sci-Fi there are many tempting collections I would like to start, but like you the 'credit machine' took a pounding and discovering how addictive collecting can be I didn't really don't want to start a whole other collection LOL

Along with my Gentle Giant and Kotobukiya I have a few Master Relicas helmets and some of the funny medicom VCD figures (Vader, Blackhole Stormtrooper, 501st Trooper, Boba Fett (ROTJ) and C3PO). I considered adding R2 but found out the size was equal to the other figures, so he would hve looked a little out of scale.

If I were to Branch out I think it would be the ships I'd start collecting. BSG would be good, always liked the Vipers too.

Re: Star Wars Collectables

Rodders, tried to find your list on Rebelscum but lucked out.

Although this isn't one of my collection, it is Star Wars themed, and a good test to see if I can upload correctly:

Me and son - Halloween 2008

and before anyone calls childline, he's standing on the couch LOL

Disiplinarian Huh? Is your son into the Holy Trilogy too?

That's a cool vader costume by the way.

How long have you been collecting and what is your favourite piece?

Re: Star Wars Collectables

Only been collecting since last year.

I was always a Star Trek fan but enjoyed the Star Wars Trilogy.
It was a chance viewing of A New Hope on TV that got my son hooked. Of course at the age of 7 he loved the prequels just as much, as I believe they were made for the wider audience (ie directed at children) anyway. The it's the old reliving your childhood through your children syndrome

Of course he's loving the Clone Wars series too.

One of my favourite busts is Emperor Palpatine, however I only buy the items I like the look of anyway (or maybe one I've been thinking about, but due to cost wait until it goes on sale). I would never have the cash to buy on a whim.

Until my lottery win!

Re: Star Wars Collectables

OK...Emperor Palpatine

One of my favourite busts from Gentle Giant (GG). About 7" tall and made from polystone. I only have a few of the 'bad guys' in my collection and I think he's the best.
He is extremely well made and the detail in the face really portrays the malice when he confronts Yoda in Revenge of the Sith.
Like most GG busts he originally sold for approx $55.00 USD (£35-40 GBP, depending on exchange rate). Unfortunately I had to buy mine at £60. I believe he is worth around £100 now, but as I have no intention of selling I suppose it doesn't really matter. He sits nicely by my GG Vader (ESB), which is my biggest statue in the collection.

I must add that although GG has some fantastic statues and busts from several sci-fi and fantasy films, the company itself is very poor on the customer service side. Visit the site or view other forums (like Rebelscum.com) to see just how poor. I am a member of their Premier Guild, but won't remain so come the annual renewal date.

Re: Star Wars Collectables

Cool Photos. (Sorry, my collection is listed under Rodders in Rebelscum. What a Wilf.) I only have one bust (the Emporors royal Guard. Such a great costume.) I do like their statues and have a few.

I've been collecting since 1977 when i first saw Star Wars. Obviously it was the old Kenner toys. Then it sort of waxed and waned until i saw Heir to the empire in the book shops. I started collecting the books and then in 2004 i saw the Code 3 Millennium Falcon and i started collecting the Higher end stuff. My favourite bits are the MR Millennium Falcon (which i haven't even got out of the box yet) and the MR Boba Fett's helmet. My grail collectible would be the Attakus Millennium Falcon and Death Star Hall diorama, but the wife has expressly forbidden this on the grounds of room.

I like Star Trek too and Loved Babylon 5, Firefly and Farscape.

If you like the BSG ships, check out the QMX web site. They have a model of the new Cylon Raider that looks really good. (Like you say, Lottery win.)

Re: Star Wars Collectables

LOL, I think I would have had to start saving in 1977 just to afford the Millenium Falcon!

I have collected the MR .45 scaled helmets, but I must admit my favourites are the Cdr Gree and Utapau Shadow Trooper versions.

Re: Star Wars Collectables

Another week gone and I thought I'd post a picture of my largest statue.
This is Lord Vader sculpted in a pose from Empire Strikes Back, as he addresses the Emperor.

The statue is approx 11" high and 12" across the base. It is very well made and originally sold at around £180. No, I did not buy it at that price (nearly half that at £100). He went down to about £60 before being sold out really quickly

Just to show him in his normal surroundings (and in scale with my Emperor Palpatine bust):

He does look cool. I'm sorry i don't have any photos t show you in return. My wife keeps pestering me to get a couple of IKEA display cabinets. I'm going to get one next month and i'll hopefully be able to post a couple of photos then.

Any ideas on your next purchase?
