I find classical opera and ballet a bit hard for me to enjoy. Both are true arts and have their place but it's not with me.
Both opera and ballet exaggerate whatever they try to say. The death of the swan in the ballet "Swan Lake" takes way too long. I do understand that if everything in opera was done in real time it would not exist.
The same is true for opera. Three hours to have a 30-minute story told.
On the positive side I have great admiration for the strength, poise, gracefulness and dedication that ballet dancers have for their form of expression. They are in superb physical condition and do with ease the moves I am afraid to try.
I cannot say enough about opeartic voices. Tenor, baritone, whatever, they are, technically speaking, a marvel.
The art I love. The artform is just not my first choice.
