You're right, Master, the main Children in Need event is normally in November, but people raise money all year round for the charity. November is just a focal point for actually handing over the lolly!

Last time I signed at Cosford, I was raising money for a specific project. Happily, I raised enough money to completely refurbish a children's orphanage in Kenya. My old Squadron took an aircraft and a team of volunteers out there. They got physically involved in the refurbishment, spending a week out there with the staff and children, painting, decorating and giving the whole place a general makeover. Sadly, I was unable to go along, but it was nice to know that my efforts had made such a difference to those childrens' lives.

I've always been involved in charity work - it's good for the soul.

Re: Signing Events.

I've got an idea... How about we lock you up somewhere and see if people are willing to donate to have you let out...

Nice to see some people willing to get out there and get their hands dirty doing the work... Good on them!!!

LOL! You'll have to catch me first! You can be sure that I'll be borrowing some frozen ducks from Ivy to put you off! Anyway, I've been 'locked' in the military for over 20 years now - people do less than that for murder!

Re: Signing Events.

Cosford Airshow was a wonderfully successful day. I broke my personal best for the most books sold in a single session - 283! I'm now convinced that I could break 300 one day... maybe when I'm a little better known.

Next major event - Worldcon 4-8th August, in Glasgow. I hope to see some of you there.

I would really love to go to WorldCon. Unfortunately, I'll be in Norway

Re: Signing Events.

Thanks, Cal. Thanks, Rune.

I never did hear from your school, Cal. Sadly, I will be charging for visits from now on. I only have 4 weeks left in work before I have to earn a living from my writing, so I won't be able to do it for free any more. However, if you PM me the address of your school, (and preferably the name of your librarian) I'll send them my talks literature.

Re: Signing Events.

Yeah, I know. The idea seemed to peter out, which is a great shame

Well it wouldn't hurt to try to resurrect it. I've got a letter that I'm pumping out into schools with a photo, a resume of possible talks, and a picture of the new front cover of Forging of the Sword on it. It looks pretty swish, so if you want me to send one to your Librarian, I'd be happy to do so.

Ok

I have, unfortunately, now left the school, having finished my A-level exams. But I shall try and find the adress and name of the librarian and pm you

What do you mean "unfortunately"? I was dancing with joy when my A-levels were over. I certainly did not look back when I left my school for the last time. It wasn't that I hated my school - far from it. I just hated exams.

Thanks, though. I appreciate any contact details for schools.

Re: Signing Events.

I'm very happy about it. But it means you won't have the considerable honour of meeting me

I'm still trying the find that address. Bizarrely, I can't find it anywhere

An honour it would have been, Cal.

A note for future confirmed events. Aside from Worldcon I have also confirmed signing dates of:

Northampton WH Smith - 11th, 12th and 13th August 2005 - 9.30am - 5pm each day.

Cribbs Causeway WH Smith - 24th, 25th and 26th August 2005 - 10am - 5pm each day.

Hope to meet anyone who's in town.

Re: Signing Events.

Two more days to go in Northampton and the manager decided today to make it all the more attractive: the books are available on 3 for 2 whilst I'm signing. Nice touch.

Naturally I'm selling lots of books, but then I always do.
