trying to find book

hi, can anyone please help me find a book....i can't remember title or author but the plot is loosely about clones. When a person is born a clone is made of them who's used as a doner for organs when the original person gets ill. I think that's a loose version of the plot. No idea when it was printed but i was told of it about 3 years ago. Thanks for any help

Not one that I've read, I'm afraid, but someone here will probably have heard of it. Welcome to Chronicles.

Re: trying to find book

Sounds like it might be something by Larry Niven. Organ banks and organ transplants come up rather often in his books.

As well as in Robert Heinlein's books. It's an important part of The Cat who walks through the wall, for exemple (when Colin learn who's the donor of his leg).

I believe this book you seek is called "Spares" by Michael Marshall Smith.

Apologies if I'm wrong.

Re: trying to find book

thanks so much i think that's the book but after reading some of the reviews it doesn't sound as good as it was made to sound to start with oh well, still sounds like an interesting plot.

Well spotted, especially as I can hardly think of an SF writer who hasn't tackled cloning at some point.

I don't think there's been a book about a cloned SF author though......that'd be interesting!!

Re: trying to find book

Just to continue the theme for cloning, I've just found that there is a movie coming out in the US this summer called "The Island" featuring characters who discover that they are clones that have been created for the purpose of providing spare parts.

If you want to find out some more then www.imdb.com is the place to go.
