LOL....... Indy darlin' I don't think you should stop your meanderings at all! Much of what you said echoes how I and many others feel.

You are well used to my diatribes by now. The comments I initially made about Osiris still stand. Having said that, I thought that the actress did bring a certain 'fine madness and insanity' to the role. One which I personally feel is quite appropriate. Osiris, an overtly very masculine god in the body of a nervous highly strung female academic. That is by anyone's estimation, a rather lethal combination. Osiris combines all the worst characteristics of both male and female with a bit of insanity thrown in.

It would certainly make for a rather crazed and despotic ruler, but not necessarily a strong one. Certainly someone with that kind of outlook would prevail at first, but his/her very contemptuous disregard for those around them would eventually be their downfall.

Anubis was disappointing.....or rather the depiction of him was. In my novel (wot I am writing) I have depicted him also as a mysterious cloaked figure, but a tall imposing one rather than the 'gimp in the nightie'!!! In fact, the show's depiction reminded me of ET when they wrap him in the blanket. I immediately thought, 'bloody hell', it's ET. Anubis is ET! And I so very much hope not, but since the show is now clearly catering to the wide eyed viewer with the attention span of the average goldfish, my hopes will be in vain.

The Stargate viewers want enemy monsters who look like typical sci fi monsters and I have a horrible feeling that this is exactly what we will get when they finally and proudly reveal the new Goa'uld enemy.

The kind of reeking menace to which you are alluding, Indy, and to which I subscribe also, which occurred in the feature and the first couple of seasons is not what most viewers want to see. You and I (and many others) don't need to be scared of monsters in closets. What we want is for the show to treat us with respect and to allow that the most horrifically fearful things come in packages which are VERY familiar. Such as a symbiote within our own human form. Something completely familiar and yet horrifically unfamiliar in nature.

The show has not had that sense of mystery and menace for an awfully long time, and I truly believe that they think that the only way to get us to react is to present us with Godzilla complete with fangs and claws, instead of a smooth, oil, deadly cold eyed villain who would both thrill and terrify with his utter disregard for anything or anyone who gets in his way. Ra was such a villain. Terrifying in his very lack of concern for humanity. So was Cronus......and Heru Ur and Hathor. To them humans were just there to be used.....fit only for hosts and slaves. Osiris has a little of it, along with more than a touch of repressed hysterical insanity.

I think it speaks volumes that most of those I listed above were conveniently killed off by SG1.... Osiris will be another who will eventually fall, probably by the hand of Major Carter, who is, without a doubt the biggest whuss of an officer I have ever seen in my entire life.... and Anubis? Well, if it IS ET under the hooded nightie....with a bit of luck Cassandra will give him a 'lift' on the front of her bicycle and they'll disappear off to some other galaxy!
