| Osiris is the type of Villian that I love. However, I know some people don't feel she has the same menace as other Goa'ulds. I remember Titan thought she was more like the kind of person who would ask for another cream bun. She may look like that, but that is not Osiris' nature. Osiris above all is a Goa'uld, it just so happens Osiris took a good looking female host. The greatest Goa'uld was Ra, until he was wacked by Jack.
Ra looked like the kind of person who would ask for a cream bun too, but he had something about him. And I've been saying it for ages. To quote Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky, "For a moment I thought you were talking about a F**king mask!" The one thing about Stargate I don't like is that they never seem to wear those helmets anymore. I thought this idea would be revisted in Revelations with the introduction of Anubis, but then I thought, nah TPTB won't do this. They'll show Anubis face as they have done with every other Goa'uld. I was really looking out for a Jackal headed man with great stature, however I got a gimp in a nighty.
One of the main things I loved about the feature was the costumes and the helmets that retracted into the collars. Ra's elmet that retracted into his head was even better. That is Stargate. Then TPTB came along and decided that the helmets wouldn't be in the series, a lot. Ever since Joe Mallozzi and Paul Mullie came on board the focus of the show has been geared towards making it cooler, because cool is the way to go. LOL. They never stopped to think that those friggen masks were cool?
Back to the Gimp in the Nighty. I over-exaggerated there, but I do think it would have been better for Anubis to wear a helmet. I believe most of the gods and their Jaffa should wear helmets. If we see a jackal headed dude then we know it's Anubis, if we see a Jaffa in a Hawk Helmet then we must assume his loyalties lie/lied with Her'Ur or possibly Ra. The only reason we know that the gimp in the nighty was Anubis coz we were told this. Stargate appears to be turning into a "try-Hard". Trying desperately hard to be cool and failing. What they need to do is sit down and watch the feature and Season One and see how much off course they've went.
Bar all the dissing I've done about how much off course the show has went, it will still remain my favourite Science-Fiction/Adventure TV show. Because Stargate had an established feature it was able to adopt its style. That Style still remains in a certain degree. However, in some episodes, most notabilly in Season Four it was like they were trying to do what most shows do, have cool spaceships and lots of cheap ass, heavy special effects. In Season Five they slowed down and experimented with a less is more. The Warrior wasn't Special Effects heavy compared to some other episodes. At the end they had a really great effect that was mind blowingly too good for TV. In Menace, the replicators looked more realistic. In 48 Hours the Explosions were as big as any bruckheimer/Bay movie. And the CG Asgard in revelations was just as good as CG Jar Jar Binks, better in my opinion. The Ships in revelations were better than they used to be, but did not look as good as a Specially engineered model with digital enhancements.
I just kinda babbled here about meanderins on Season Five, but, erm...maybe I'll stop.
