| Goblin Princess | Re: How Will History Judge George W. Bush? Since so many Americans don't vote at all, there will always be more people who will tell you that they didn't elect him than there will be who say they did, Ace. I, on the other hand, have always been proud to say that not only did I not vote for Bush, I actually voted against him, both times. I imagine that Zubi can say the same. The best thing that I can say for Bush is that history will remember him, which I suppose is something of a triumph for a man of such, um, modest abilities. |

| Wherever I Am, I'm There | Re: How Will History Judge George W. Bush? Well, there was some Bush apologist on BBC Radio 4 a few days ago making a (not very good) case for why Bush has been (not just a good, but) a very great President. According to him (and no figures or references were given) the American people are financially better off now than when Bush took office, and Sadam was removed under the full authority of UN resolutions! Next year when this recession has really gripped hold, he may have a different viewpoint (hopefully he will be out of work himself since he was clearly delusional.) I don't have any figures myself, but it seems to me that there is an increasing divide in the US between the haves and the have nots. I get this impression from things such the lack of basic health care for people who cannot afford insurance, and the appalling response to Hurricane Katrina. It may well be true that some people are better off (munitions manufacturers, security advisers?) but there are many who are not (automobile factory workers?) Such a social inequality gap needs to be closed or it is going to lead to some big problems down the line, and that will be the Bush legacy. |
