Edinburgh Festival

Woohoo. I finally got off my lazy behind and caught a bit of the festival!
Went to see Titus Andronicus by the Kaos Theatre and it was excellent. Loads of blood and a teeny bit of nudity (nothing too shocking). The set is a kind of MorgueAbattoire setup and there was a 5 minute pause halfway through the play whilst the stage hands did a bit of mopping up (Health & Safety regs I would imagine).
Fine, moving performances by all the actors. And well worth a watch if you get the chance.
Kaos are an English troupe and are worth looking out for if you like a bit of theatre.

Re:Edinburgh Festival

I really do intend to go to the Fringe one year - preferably with my own little theatre group and do a comedy show from some sketches I've been developing for years.

But Titus Andronicus - very gruesome play! (Don't eat the pie!). Must have been quite a task staging it. And Shakespeare is so much better, alive upon the colour of a character stage, than in mere black and white pentamenter verse of a page.

Re:Edinburgh Festival

It's certainly worth the trip. The fringe is getting bigger and more diverse every year; for example, there's a play being performed in a public lavatory and it's getting very good reviews.
I suppose I'm quite lucky living just a few miles away, I imagine the cost of accomodation would be horrendous at this time of year.

Now there's a thought for the future - you got room for a troupe of actors at your place for when we do come by? ;D

This reminds me of a piece I saw on a magazine show on TV a few months back. It seems that someone in New York had written a play and, because he couldn't find theatre space for it, was staging it in his apartment. After which his wife/girlfriend (I can't recall which) served dinner to the necessarily very small audience. I like that kind of creativity. As I recall, the play was doing fairly well and getting pretty good reviews.

Re:Edinburgh Festival

One of the plays in the festival consisted of an empty stage. The reviewer from The Scotsman went along and stared at the stage for about an hour - until a stage hand told him the performance had been postponed until the next night. He went home, returned to the theatre at the time of the next performance and then gave it a pretty bad review ???

P.S. Brian..it would have to be a troupe of dwarves...I only have the one spare room.

Re:Edinburgh Festival

No problem - I'll simply make sure that I get Dopey and Sneezy and co on board for it.

As I recall, the report showed the meal afterward and they seemed to be enjoying it well enough.
