Shadow of the Giant

So Shadow of the Giant came out yesterday. I didn't know this until about a month ago. I'm excited for it since I'm a Card nut. I doubt I'll be able to read it for a while, unfortunately, due to the ever increasing amount of schoolwork I seem to get. Anyone else get his/her copy yet?

Not yet, but I'm salivating just thinking about it. I have to get to a bookstore!

Re: Shadow of the Giant

Just in case anyone is interested, I've just posted a review of "Shadow of the Giant" over on the reviews board. Good book. Not my favorite of the series, but so much better than "Shadow Puppets" that I like it probably more than I would have if "Puppets" had been better.

You can click here to find the review:

Re: Shadow of the Giant

I can't get into it. I hear people rant and complain about Speaker and Xenocide not being proper 'sequals' to Ender's Game, but they are more appropriate than this Shadow series to me.

Speaker and Xenocide had good stories to tell that connected with me. These are stories that debated moral issues without coming across as self-righteous, at least to this reader. The Shadow series, honestly, just seems like a cash cow to keep Orson from picking up a day job. These are 'sequals' all right, direct sequals that do nothing except continue the one plot line of Ender's Game that I cared the least about. The story left for me when Ender left. The true continuation of the series went with the title character.

It might seem harsh but I just can't like them. Any time I think an author is just pumping out the words because he's being paid to beat a dead dog... it just turns me off.

This dog is dead. Very dead.
