An inconsistency in 'The Barrow Downs' Chapter

I have decided to re-read the LOTR saga begining with The Hobbit, and I have found a little inconsistancy. As it is intimatly involved with events in the novel, I will put it down entirely in 'spoiler mode'.

Frodo fumbles in his pocket to find The Ring when he awakens in the tomb, and yet it is said that the hobits' clothing has been replaced with ancient white burial shrouds. Was Frodo somehow spared this ghoulish game of dress-up? If so then why?

What do you think about this? Did I miss anything?

Thank you.
