Anyone Looking Forward to The Hobbit?

Peter Jackson has apparently settled his differences with New Line and will produce this one. With I believe Guillermo Del Toro will be directing, cool huh?

Apologies if you've heard this before.

Absolutely....... not sure about Guillermo, though...... As long as they tell the whole story it should be another blockbuster!

Re: Anyone Looking Forward to The Hobbit?

needs to be a 2 parter to do it justice

No need for missing/adding stuff or requirements for PJ's artistic license either!

Hope they manage to get Smaug right most of all

Re: Anyone Looking Forward to The Hobbit?

Well it's going to be a hugely difficult act to follow - the expectation levels will far outstrip even those of the LOTR films. Certainly looking forward to it - personally I think that having a new director (especially Del Toro!) might be a good thing; as much as I admired PJ's stunning adaptation I think that Del Toro will bring a fresh vision and avoid the new films being weak shadows of the original trilogy (as happened with Star Wars!)

Yes, as long as PJ doesn't butcher any more characters *cough*Faramir*, and keeps the characters faithful more or less to the book *cough*Glorfindel/Arwen*cough*, I definitely am looking forward to it!

Re: Anyone Looking Forward to The Hobbit?

Wonder if they'll decide on a bright , cheerful adaptation like the novel , or go with a more serious , darker version a la LOTR?

2010 is the date I've seen most often, Gollum...but there again, I've seen every year from 2009 to 2012...

Re: Anyone Looking Forward to The Hobbit?

To answer the posed question: Yes, I'm looking forward to The Hobbit. I'm sure that a more than adequate job will be done with it, given that it's a much easier (and shorter!) story to adapt for a screenplay and to film.

What I'm not sure about is the proposed "second Hobbit film", covering the seventy-odd years between TA 2942 and TA 3018.
If it sticks to Appendix B, the Tale of Years, well and good - but I have my doubts whether this will satisfy Messrs Del Toro and Jackson, somehow...

Re: Anyone Looking Forward to The Hobbit?

There has been so much back-and-forth "they're doing it," "no they're not," that I'm not allowing myself to look forward to it.

But if I was sure it was going to happen, I'd be looking forward to the first part at least.

I wonder if we'll see Legolas among the wood elves? And will they rewrite it so that there are some female characters?

Re: Anyone Looking Forward to The Hobbit?

The elves are going to be a bit of a problem anyway, I think - the difference between their appearance and demeanour in The Hobbit and in LotR is marked, to say the least...

Female characters? In The Hobbit? Sacrilege, say I...

Maybe there will be a Mrs. Thranduil who gets a few lines, and Bard will have a girlfriend.
