Hello everyone, new to the board within the last few days and just thought I would say hi. I live in the states in St. Loius, Missouri and have been reading science fiction and fantasy for most of my life.

I tend to like novels rather then short stories simply because I never want a good story to end. When I am reading a story I enjoy, I want it to keep going, the longer the better. I love long series, like Wheel of Time or the Honnor Harrington books because I can never get enough of the characters and worlds that have captured my attention.

I am always looking for new books and authors to read so a website like this is great to find something new to me to read. If I find a author I like I tend to collect everything they have written. Once I get a book even if I did not like it, it goes into my collection just in case another story triggers a memory and I need to go back and reread it hehe. I have in the past had problems with repeat buying of books that were already in my collection, so I now keep a database on my cell phone. With the current price of paperbacks I now do most of my buying at used books stores except when that next book in a set comes out I just can't wait for.

Reading your book-buying habits, I'm sure we must have a common ancestor, and not too far back, at that...

Reading the books you've commented on, I suspect our bookshelves must have a fir amount in common (and our ages probably not that different) Mixing 'Bardic voices' with 'The moon's a harsh mistress', and add the Grey Mouser? I wonder how many here...

Still, that's as maybe. I like it here; you probably will as well. So watch out for the chroniverous properties of the site, and beware addiction.

Have I welcomed you yet? No, it seems not. Well, you are. (welcome, that is, although I'm sure you exist, too.) A diverse community, friendly and accepting, always ready to support its members in adversity, polite, well spoken (well written, actually, as audio is not available, but telephone-style contractions are not common, largely because those who use them are frequently found hanging head-down over the Shoggoth pit. Hung there in a very polite and friendly manner, obviously.)

I recommend stocking up with food, drink and sanitary facilities before logging on, otherwise you risk distractions (the police arriving to drag your mummified corpse away from in front of the computer for one.)

I like your idea of using you mobile phone to keep your data base in. I myself carry around a small note book in which I write all the books that I want to get, and when they are due to arrive in the bookshops.
