Ask the Author

I thought I'd start this thread to answer any questions that readers of my work might have. I'll start by answering the one question that everyone is emailing me with at the moment - are there going to be any more books in The Darkweaver Legacy series?

The answer is no. I do not plan any more books in this series. However, I do plan to eventually write a second series with the same characters, picking up with the main cast of characters from The Darkweaver Legacy three years after the events of The Chosen One. For now, though, I am taking a break from the magical antics of Calvyn and co. to concentrate on Femke and the shady world of espionage and assassins.

Imperial Spy will be the first of what I hope to be a trilogy set in the same world as The Darkweaver Legacy. It is due to be launched in Spring 06, with Imperial Assassin - the second in the series - due to launch in the autumn of the same year. The final volume, Imperial Traitor, has not yet been agreed by the publisher.

Re: Ask the Author

Greetings Mark, I am pretty new to these forums and when I saw your forum I was quite impressed with your posts. So I guess my question is more of a hope then a question, is your work available in Canada? I would like to read your books.

Re: Ask the Author

Greetings, Rahl,

At the moment The Darkweaver Legacy series is only distributed to retail outlets in the UK. However, you can get books from amazon.co.uk by following the link in my signature and then following the links on the 'Order' page. I am hoping to gain publishing and distribution deals into USA and Canada for the new series later this year, but it will then be some time before the books are on the shelves. The publishing industry is not renowned for fleetness of foot on these things!

I have looked at trying to beat the amazon delivery prices trans Atlantic, and to be honest their delivery charges are pretty much at cost, so even ordering directly from me wouldn't save you much. If you do decide to order the books through amazon, I'd be delighted to discuss the stories with you here once you have read them - I feel this site is going to prove a very useful avenue for me to interract with readers. (Thanks again, Brian )

Re: Ask the Author

Aye so I searched amazon.ca (Amazon Canada) with your name and while it did come up with what I believe are some of your books its hard for me to tell as I can't seem to find your bibliography here in your forum. Anyway I tried to post a link to the search here but for some reason the link didn't work...so you would have to preform the search yourself and maybe get back to me in this post. In the mean time why not put up a bibliography of your work, please correct me if I have somehow missed it.

I still would love to own some of your books but I don't want to send to the UK for them.

Re: Ask the Author

OK, Rahl. That's a good prompt. Thanks. I'll put up a bibliography here later. I think that Alia might have it somewhere in the Young Adult section, but then again, she might be waiting for me to send information too. It sort of slipped my mind, but I'll rectify the situation very shortly.

Re: Ask the Author

Are you planning to make any of the books into a film?
The darkweaver legacy was excellent and I know many people who would be interested to see a film like that, and Imperial Spy has been written better than any other book I've read so that would be great as well
I noticed that you mentioned carrying on with Calvyn, when would that be? I'm excited already.

That's not a bad idea. I hadn't considered it, but you're right, Serrius was a great character in First Sword. Would it please you to know he didn't die in the fight with Bek? I don't think it's giving too much away to tell you that he makes an appearance in Imperial Assassin. However, that's as much of a teaser as I'm going to give you for now.

Re: Ask the Author

I will certainly give it some thought, but it will have to go into the queue behind a whole load of other projects that I have in mind first. I have so many thoughts on stories backing up in my head that I don't know whether I'm coming or going, Shandese or Thrandorian, Magician or swordsman!

Re: Ask the Author

Yes, Cosmo. Imperial Traitor is planned to be the last in the series. I don't want to drag out the story into more than three books. However, don't worry - I've got plenty more stories left in me yet.

Congrats on the 200th post - you'll overtake me in no time at this rate!

Re: Ask the Author

I'll ask you the same question as I asked Kelpie.
What is your view on translations? Love them, hate them, considering them?
Which language would you prefer?
I take it that you have more freedom on that part anyway, because you edited yourself right?
