Ah; are you ready to dust off the turntable, check the bearings on the arm haven't clogged up and there's a diamond in the stylus in the cartridge on… and renew your vinyl experience? I had thought I was past writing, but as several here can tell you I'm up and scribbling again.

On the other hand, this is partly to the good as it reduces my bibliphagy (good for me, that is, and nobody's actually forced to read the stuff)

Welcome in; I too cut my SF teeth on Clarke, Asimov and Bradbury; and Williamson, Simak, Heinlein, Bester, (and, of course English New Wave,'cause it was there) The age range of people communicating here is truly astounding.

My standard warning; prepare for prolonged bouts of sleeplessness, the "chron" in Chronicles refers to its time-absorbing characteristics. Try not to offend any elder gods, it's quiet on the dragon front right now.

And don't be afraid to join in because of ignorance of a subject; it doesn't seem to stop anyone else here.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm doing something better than dusting off my old turntable (Pioneer, by the way) I'm trying to figure out how to use my new Ion USB turntable, the machine that turns vinyl into digital on the hard drive. So far I got it hooked up and the software downloaded but haven't yet tried recording anything. Am waiting for my next day off so I'll have plenty of uninterupted time to fool around with it.

Glad to hear a corroboration of the New Wave. Some writers pooh-pooh the notion that there even was a New Wave. I never doubted it and though I haven't read all that much of it I've enjoyed what I did. Keep meaning to pull down Judith Merril's England Swings SF off the bookshelf but always seem to get distracted by something else.

Hope you find many (but not too many; eating, sleeping and other things are at risk!) happy hours here, and hop right in when the mood takes you.
Grim's warning (and all the others) are valid. However, it is the remit of the individual to organise his own activities during the short time we all have left.

So welcome.

Can't do the fancy stuff! You've put one of those picture thingies under your name. That is many levels above my ability.

Go to the top of this page, Moss, then click on User CP, on the brown bar, on the left.
Now go to Edit Avatar, still on the left, in the column headed Your Control Panel, about three headings down.
Choose an avatar from the Pre-defined Standard Avatars (you've 6 pages to choose from) by checking the little white circle by each one.
Finally, click Save Changes at the bottom of that page, and you have an avatar!

If you have your own picture, use the Custom Avatar panel above Save Changes - the forum software should adjust it to the right size.

Good luck...

Thanks for that, Pyan. I'll give it a go.
(Apologies to Dask for borrowing his thread for a tutorial)

Welcome Dask, from a Chronian who is NORTH of the 49th Parallel (Canada to the navigationally-impaired).

The Chrons is an amazing place. Don't get lost in the Spectral Minglers. There's THINGS in there....

If this turns out right I've just learned how to reply to several messages at one time. Thank you all for the kind welcome. It is appreciated. Now let's see if this works.

Freda scuttles in and makes a series of obscene gestures at Clansman.

She hates being a 'Thing.'
