| Re: You shouldn't laugh, but... Oh yes, DG, they're up there with people who can't spell, write, "Should of," for ,"Should've," ignore the difference between, 'To,' and, 'Too,' pluralise, 'Media,' mention, 'Stadiums,' when anyone with 3 brain-cells knows the word is, 'Stadia,' can't tell the difference between, 'Dogs,' (more than one dog) and, 'Dog's,' (belonging to the dog), in short, the kind of cretins who should be publicly hanged for crimes against the english language. ![]() It's funny how the only people who tried to define the word are as moronic as the scum they abhor. |

| Re: You shouldn't laugh, but... The one that used to annoy me was "Forums" - I was taught that it was "Fora". However, this one seems to be a lost cause... ![]() Incidently, as you drive up the M6 motorway past the junction to Liverpool, there is a big sign that says: Quote:

Nah, we have pie-flinging character "assassins", too, although given that Bill Gates tends to inspire such reactions wherever he goes, this incident could just as easily have occurred outside the US (and noting the reporter's distinct non-English coverage, may have! ). You can easily say that there are people who'd like to kill former Enron exec Skillings, too, but other than his jail term, he's only been hit with pies thusfar...***not sure if this is in the archives, but whispers to TEiN and Ursa that the Great Pie Flinging incidents in published history might make for a good thread!*** | |

| Re: You shouldn't laugh, but... the English relationship with Scotland (and also Ireland) is seen differently from the other side. after all, the English imposed their rule over the Scots (and Irish) so to us it is a beneficial arrangement, but for the nation being ruled it isn't always seen as such a good thing |

| Re: You shouldn't laugh, but... As I've said elsewhere, "the English" did no such thing, Urlik. Those in power over the English did this, while at the same time treating most English people with the contempt they didn't reserve for those from the other nations in these islands. (By the way, I won't even allow you to bash all Normans, for instance, as some of my Scottish ancestors came from there. ) |

| Re: You shouldn't laugh, but... I should have made distinctions between the govenrments and peoples of the Nations mentioned, but it is easy to look at it dispationately with English eyes and lay it all at the feet of the govenrment, but a trifle harder to be objective when your ancestors were the ones being put down. |

| Re: You shouldn't laugh, but... I think most of mine would have been on the receiving end, Urlik; it's just that over the last couple of centuries, some of my ancestors moved into England. (And they were far from alone in moving here.) But we seem to have drifted from the serious topic that led to this thread being created.... |
