Give or take a couple of games (the one in London and the SuperBowl) I won't be seeing any games on TV. And on top of that, the Cowboys seem to have a lot of evening games, which means they'll be playing in the UK's early hours , so even NFL.com won't help (unless I give up sleep entirely).

Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!)

Well, the Jets open their season at Houston, who they've beat 3 times previously. Having said that I've obviously cursed them....

The Jets/Dolphins games used to be a riot and I was half convinced the D were told to just let the bad guys score so that we could get the damn ball back - "he who scores last, wins".

Then again the Jets went through a season where fans wearing the right numbered jerseys (and fat suits) used to start each game in lieu of the regular players, who all had day jobs and couldn't get to the stadium before half-time. Well, that's what it looked like...

Given the last two posts, perhaps Grim's question ought to have been:
Come on, peoples: for which team are you plumping this season?

Ursa,

We (Americans) are the land of the obese and the home of the double third pound burger.

Speaking for myself, I'm plenty plump already, but you won't find me in a Jets Jersey!

Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!)

Great opening game last night, except for Collingsworth (what were they thinking?). I still can't believe there aren't any Steelers fans (er, again, that would be the professional American Football team, and not Chopper's club...you know, the defending Super Bowl champs?).....

*Hopes not to hear about the Great Seattle Steeler Studs, the Hamilton Croatia Steelers, the Pohang Steelers, or anyone else coincidentally sharing the name!*

Losing Palomalu, however, is gonna hurt, and the silly Madden curse is STILL alive...watch out, Lady; Fitzgerald's also on that cover....

Titans played a great game, Cay, but when Pittsburgh won the overtime toss, I knew it was over (Rothlisberger was lights out last night....).

Hmmm, post number 1400....rooting for Portis to pass me (yardage to posts!)

Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!)

After he warmed up a little, Rothlisberger was lights out. Couldn't get that running game going, though. And the Titans blitzed well early. But, yeah, that defense looked average without Troy P.. That's one big loss.

Last time I checked, Lady was a Pats girl, so I don't think she'd care all that much if Fitzgerald goes down. I would, though, he's the number one reciever on my fantasy team...

She's kind of a closet Cards fan too, or at least a casual observer owing to their physical proximity to her, and since we don't have the real thing, she was the only person I could think of to stand in...

True enough. I wonder who my closest team is, geographically speaking. I guess it'd be Oakland? How unfortunate... Actually, no, the Chargers more like. That's more acceptable.

Richard Seymour would probably agree with you.....

EDIT: OK, head is hitting the keyboard....G'Night (here!), Cul. Good luck on Sunday against Al Davis' boys....and Simian, if he's lurking around here somewhere!

No more than I seem to have over the last 20 or so years, Reiver!

Odd, ain't it? Both Jets fans coming from the same little corner of the country in RL...

(edit) Jets new stadium cams...the time-lapse one is interesting.

i do have a soft spot for Pittsburgh, seeing as they were the first team i tried out on Madden a few years back....
the Sheffield Steelers, meanwhile, our venerable ice-hockey chaps, have decided to drop the word Sheffield from their name, replacing it with "Field Electrical". doesn't trip off the tongue though...

Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!)

Vikings set up with a double tight to the right. Farve hands off to AP going left. He's through the line! There's a block up field. He steps through a tackle. He pushes another out of Bounds! One more straight arm, and it a race! TOUCHDOWN VIKES!! Oh the joy!

(Grim is the pre-season over?)
