| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) That'd be nice, Cul. And sure, thanks to the Danny-Boy, we're always a paper tiger at this point in the season. ![]() Didn't Pace play RT in college for a while, blocking for Eddie George? Might be confusing him with someone else....either way, though. Baltimore and the Jets don't have enough cap room to seriously go after him (without releasing someone else), Cay, but Tennessee sure does, and the Giants probably do (although they won't have much left afterwards if successful). All right, head's hitting the keyboard; G'Night all! |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) And once again *J laughs hysterically in the background, while Ursa chortles and Cayal simply nods knowingly* we've picked up another player of "outstanding moral character" here in Danny land....and yes, I'd seen the caveats about his history (head stomping, etc.), but I thought even the Danny did standard employment background checks.... |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) He might be out in time for the play-offs**, Grim. All the team has to do is get there without him. ** - I kept wanting to type "play-oafs" there. I can't think why. |

Well, innocent... *cough, hack, wheeze, wretch, choke* ....didn't think I could spit that one out.... ....until proven guilty, and plea bargains have a way of reducing sentences to the off-season, but I'm typically inclined to agree with both of you.... |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) Well, having learned from the Pacman debacle, Dallas is trying to match the Redskins, signing Sensabaugh who is squeaky clean, himself. Still, we *need* a safety and the coaches are familiar with him, so maybe they have some kind of reason to trust him. As far as Haynesworth, I hadn't heard about the December incident but it is weird that Danny-boy hadn't, or was willing to shell out so much for a guy who might not even be there. I hope the contract was at least conditional in that regard? But I agree with you, Grim - he probably won't do time, or at least not all of it. Not sure if Goodell would suspend him or not, either. He certainly is happy to suspend folks but, ironically, despite the horrible results of this, Goodell may not see it as suspend-able. I don't know if Haynesworth did something like literally run the guy off the road or if it was more of a genuine accident. If the perception is that Haynesworth "only" exercised poor judgment, he may not suffer much, whereas if he was doing the vehicular equivalent of stomping on the guy's face, then he may well get suspended. |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) True, J. The suspension might be the least of his worries, however; if they can prove he INTENDED to do it, he's gonna be in jail for a while (not much bargaining when malice aforethought is demonstrable....) |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) The word, misdemeanor, and a bond of only $1000 suggest that he's not being indicted for something intentional in the way that's been suggested here. |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) Ah, those sneaky rules committee members, and the Commissioner, to boot.... They wait until we're in the throes of March Madness (which, judging from the lack of threads, doesn't seem to be a big deal here in the Chrons) every year, then when we're not looking, bang! Rules changes, and commissioner's hinting ominously about eliminating 2 preseason games in favor of a 17 or 18-game regular season.... |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) No Parse, describing Goodell's delivery, not his statement's ramifications for the pre-season. I agree that it's too long, and would much rather get some regular season "productivity" *ignores choking, coughing, hacking noises that erupt from the gallery* out of the Redskin's annual high-priced free agents before they suffer their inevitable, season-ending injuries.... ![]() Oh, and it's starting.....
