| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) That does stink, guys. They make such a big deal here (during the network broadcasts, anyway) about how many people watch the Super Bowl around the world. If they had brains in their heads, it would be free (what better way to hawk your NFL.com merchandise, not to mention ad time for everything else!).... EDIT: And, um, can't quite see that pick there, Parse! I've got it; it must be the Vikings |

| Keep Moving Forward! | Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) Oh, it is free-to-air here, it's just that it's moved to an exclusively HD digital station. And despite the fact that we live in the midst of the city, we barely get decent analogue reception, let alone digital... |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) Well at least it came back to a terrestrial station, and one I can get (i.e. not Five). According to the Radio Times, it's on BBC1 this year. |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) Well, I'll be...! You're right, Ursa. I assumed that it would only be on Sky, as all the other games have been... Well, that's my last holiday taken for the year, booking February 2nd off tomorrow... ![]() BBC SPORT | American Football on the BBC |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) Oh, I thought you knew that it would be on the BBC this year (as well as last year), Py. (It has been on ITV in the past, as well; perhaps the NFL try to ensure that their showcase game can be seen by as many people as possible, at least in the UK.) |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) What I'd really like to see is the game complete with the American advertisements in the breaks, to get the full effect..on the BBC, we'll have talking heads giving us inconsequential facts and comments on the previous plays.. |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) I agree, Lady. Then again, given that we rarely win the best commercial awards, maybe Py, Urse, Cul and the other would find our "showcase" commercials tame. A better way to consider them is, perhaps, the most entertaining commercials that money can buy, 'cuz they ain't cheap! |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) We did get to see the famous Apple/"1984" commercial when the Super Bowl was shown on Channel 4 (which does carry adverts). |

.The pick for 2009 is Steelers while rooting for the Cards and Curt Warner, a Iowa boy who followed his dream, right to the Super Bowl TWICE!! | |

| This world is not my home | Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) Cul, You are right Warner lead the Rams to the Super Bowl twice, winning it once. My mistake. This will be his third trip to the "Big Game" and is only the second QB, Craig Morgan was the first, to lead two different teams to the Stupor Bowl. (I lived in Detroit the first time the Super Bowl was played and it was a drunken, drunken party. It is well called the Stupor Bowl by it's detractors.) |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) Morton. Interestingly (hopefully) is that he lost both times, the second time to the team he quarterbacked in the first. (Dallas and Denver.) |

| Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!) I think the last time the Steelers were in the Super Bowl, it was held in Detroit as well, if memory serves. A buddy of mine went, and indicated that little (ie, drunken party, Stupor Bowl. etc.) had changed..... And yes, Craig Morton. A name any long-time Redskin fan prefers hearing, at least in place of the hated Staubach..... |
