Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!)

Goodness me!

Was that a lateral pass on the two-point conversion...?

Looks like Parson was closest to the total points, but got the pick wrong....

Another Super Bowl where the result was not certain until the last minute.

(So no turkey. )

It really shouldn't have been so close, though. The Green Bay receivers kept Pittsburgh in it with the drops.

Final contest guesses

Jojajihisc — GB — 40
Culhwch — GB — 24
Reiver — GB — 33
J Sun — Pit — 38
Rothgar — GB — 60
Wiggum — GB — 34
Parson — Pit — 58
Weasel Soup — GB — 41
Ursa Major —Pit — 47
Pyan — Pit — 29
Chopper — Pit — 35
Alchemist — Pit — 25 (But I would judge any guess after the kick off is not acceptable.)

Best overall guess: Rothgar Green Bay and 60 pts. An excellent prognostication by any standard.

Closest to final total points: Your's truly takes a bow with 58, missing by only 2 pts.

-------------

I would judge that this was more a Pittsburgh loss than a Green Bay win. If you are -3 in the turn over category your odds of winning the game are small indeed. But then the Green Bay receivers did their part to keep the game close. But it was an entertaining game from start to finish. Certainly no turkey.

Cheeseheads. Dontcha just love 'em....

Both sides seemed, at times, to want to give the game away. (The Steelers just wanted it more. )

It was ugly football.

I watched the whole thing stone cold sober and have absolutely no idea how Rodgers ended up with over 300 yards passing.

His receivers caught a few more than they dropped.

Those drops almost cost my television its screen.

Gawd, those were painful to watch.

Re: Football (american football to those across the pond!)

Had to keep it interesting...

I thought it was painfully obvious just how badly Rodgers outclassed Roethlisberger in this game, but I still see media pundits putting Roethlisberger up with the Bradys, Mannings and Brees' of the world. How is that? Roethlisberger has to be one of the more overrated QBs in the game at the moment. He's inconsistent and has now been to three SBs without once playing a dominant game. He's benefitted greatly from being on one of the consistently best teams of the last seven or eight years, with a consistently outstanding defense, and seems to get by on the two rings and winning a handful of games at the death. His size and strength allows him to extend plays, which is a plus, but against good defenses that doesn't end up helping him much. It just amazes me when I hear his name alongside those others...
