Re: Attention to and Acknowledgement of the Analysis of our August reading I just finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon. It was amazing. I've never read anything like it (except for of course The Sound and the Fury). It was a very touching book, a very clear way of seeing life the way someone with autism does.

Re: Attention to and Acknowledgement of the Analysis of our August reading ^Hi, Welcome to the Chrons! Are you wondering what the criteria for this thread is? Well we just discuss what we are currently reading. So you can talk about a book you just finished or are reading and what you thought of that book. You can comment on what other people are reading or what you thought of their book. Thats about it. Enjoy! ![]()

Re: Attention to and Acknowledgement of the Analysis of our August reading I just finished The Last Light of the Sun last night. I quite enjoyed it. I will pick up some more Guy Gavriel Kay books at some point. Especially since seeing that this particular book of his doesn't get as raved about as some of his other stories. Now I'm reading The Chanur Saga by CJ Cherryh. (It's an omnibus that includes The Pride of Chanur, Chanur's Venture, and The Kif Strike Back.)

Re: Attention to and Acknowledgement of the Analysis of our August reading Alongside Children Of Men (Which I'm really enjoying by-the-way) I started in on Slaughterhouse 5 - Kurt Vonnegut (the second Kurt on google toolbar thingy after Cobain btw! random, but hey!). I was told it was a 'must-read' for the genre and am starting to see why: great depth, great storyline and immeasurable feeling. Thing is, I keep wanting to laugh and then feel weirdly guilty!?

Re: Attention to and Acknowledgement of the Analysis of our August reading Yeah i saw in it Japanese historical fiction thread. Where i saw it and recommended it to my brother. Also its extra sweet enjoying a book he bought. Now its not always my brothers enjoying my books without ever helping to pay for them. Did you like the first book ? Assuming you have read it. Im surprised how much im enjoying political side of the story. Usually what makes me keep away from Epic Fantasy of any kind is the overly political side of the stories. Intrigues of nobles, emperors.

Re: Attention to and Acknowledgement of the Analysis of our August reading You'll need Chanur's Homecoming as well, Lady, unless they've included it as part of TKSB. If not, it leaves it as a real cliffhanger...

Re: Attention to and Acknowledgement of the Analysis of our August reading Started reading William Peter Blatty's I'll Tell Them I Remember You last night, and I had the hardest time putting it down. Finally, at midnight, I forced myself to stop reading because I knew I had to get up early this morning to start a very long day. This book is part autobiography, part biography (of his mother), part immigrant story, and part religious testimonial. I am consistently shocked and amazed by Blatty; the dude can write like the dickens. There is a beautiful, soft elegance in his simple, straightforward prose. When I see the way he constructs certain sentences, I think to myself that he phrases things in their exact optimal way. I am also shocked that Blatty is really only known for The Exorcist, when everything else I've read by him has been as good if not better. I am really looking forward to diving into some of his satires next.

Re: Attention to and Acknowledgement of the Analysis of our August reading Finished Todd McCaffrey's Dragonsblood. I found it okay, but there were a couple of parts I didn't quite agree with (in terms of Pern canon). Moving on to Anne McCaffrey's The Girl who heard Dragons.

Re: Attention to and Acknowledgement of the Analysis of our August reading I'm now done reading Dracula and am very surprised how much it actually touched me. The foreword said that the book has never been out of print since it was first published in 1897 and I can see why! Goodness! I also learned that Scholomance is not just an instance in World of Warcraft ![]() I haven't decided on what to read next yet.
