Re: What "scene"? (Again spoilers through AFFC) The best scene in the series hasn't been mentioned yet. Varys, disguised as a goaler, visits Ned in the dungeon. Ned pleads for Sansa and Arya's lives. Varys tells him about Rhaegar's daughter having a favorite toy (a dragon I think?) that she loved to play with and took everywhere. Then he tells him how when the Mountain found her he dashed her head against the wall, smearing her brains across the stone. Never in reading any other series have so many shades of gray been illustrated, in my limited experience at least. Ned, the character I cared most about in AGoT, helped that vile act come to pass by supporting Robert and allying himself with the Lannisters. Superb storytelling.

Re: What "scene"? (Again spoilers through AFFC) My top 5: The crowning of Viserys. Jon finding Ygrittes body. Cersei losing it when she realizes she'd been caught by the new high septon. The killing of Lady. Dany turning the Unsullied on their former masters.

Re: What "scene"? (Again spoilers through AFFC) Have any of you read anything regarding Martin's favorite scenes? I'd bet Wert would know. I think the majority of the scenes mentioned here fall into a few categories. Death: Where a character meets an untimely or sudden end. Robb, Viserys, Oberyn, etc... Yesteryear: When we learn through dreams, memories, or conversations about privileged information regarding the past. The Tower of Joy, Mad King Aerys, Tysha, etc... Good byes: Saying or not-saying farewell. Lady, Drogo, Ygritte, etc... Martin uses all to drive the story forward yet make us still yearn for leaving our favorite character alone! I also get really excited during any meetings of decision makers. I know there's a lot of story going on with Arya, Jon, Dany, and Brienne but eavesdropping on Small Council meetings, Tywin's conversations, Littlefinger's schemings, Cersei's follies, and Stannis' machinations gets my mind racing. I just love the over arching political plots.

Re: What "scene"? (Again spoilers through AFFC) Most would argue that was rape and nasty blah blah etc. But yes I suppose it was a somewhat happy night, was Danny's first steps into becoming the uber pewpew Queen of the world she'll nodoubt become :P

Re: What "scene"? (Again spoilers through AFFC) Nah, not most. Only a few I think; those that only see Dany as underage despite the fact that in GRRM's world she's not really underage. They ignore the fact that many if not most of the major players in this book are teenagers (or younger!) which means that people mature much quicker in this world. Also, killing is cool but sex is definitely not . Anyone who was really looking past the surface of that scene probably realizes that Dany took control of her life and her relationship with Drogo that night. In the end it was she who initiated the act of sex. But maybe we shouldn't have that argument again...or maybe it's already too late to stop it .
