Beringia or Thuringia?

Looking for the title of a book (I think a 3-part series)

The setting is post-apocalypse where various tribes are scraping out a hunter-gatherer existence. Shamans move from tribe to tribe but are in fact survivors of the disaster and travel by submarine from village to village attempting to prevent another catastrophe. One of the tribe members figures something is up and goes off in search of the "truth"

Looking back now, it feels like it may have been set in the Pacific Northwest, maybe even the Queen Charlotte Islands

I just got back from a trip to the Yukon and the name Beringia (the ancient landmass that once connected Russia to Alaska) really reminded me of this series and I would love to re-read them.

Any ideas?
