Stargate Continuum

Not sure if there is another thread on this.

Spoilers***

I have seen it and thought it was a much better film than Arc of Truth. It had swearing and seeing Baal cut in half was really quite a step into a darker version of Stargate, along with Daniel's loss of a leg, Apophis's (cant spell his name) head getting cut off. There was a lot of gloom in the first half and that really showed a different side of the characters, and showed that things were not so easy.

I did think Teal'c went over to the good side a little too easy though.

Still, i enjoyed it and it was nice to see both the old characters and the new.

Re: Stargate Continuum

I, too, recently viewed Stargate Ark of Truth.
I plan on getting Continuum, not certain how well the time travel storyline is going to work though.

Enjoy!

Re: Stargate Continuum - **spoilers**

This is going to be a psued-running commentary on Continuum as I watch it:

There will be spoilers!

************************************************

Okay, first, let me say that once people starting disappearing, esp'ly when Vala and Teal'c were first, I was pretty sure this was a sort of 'Back to the Future' storyline.

Daniel running smack into Mitchell cracked me up!

I love the idea that SG-1 (well, the part of SG-1 that is 'stuck' - Mitchell, Sam and Daniel) are being told that they can't change 'history', or that they *shouldn't* change it, just b/c it's not 'their' history. I think it's a great twist on the story, b/c they usually run in, make their changes and fix things. (More on this later.)

Daniel's book is 70% off, b/c he's a quack. Jack's son is alive. Honestly, I'm just glad they didn't have Jack married to Sam. I *hate* that 'option'. And Sam was an astronaut - that's cool.

I can tell you that I could really care less about Mitchell. I have no interest in him at all. NONE.

Ba'al captured Apophis. And killed him. Kronos gets a reappearance - that's nice. Teal'c as his First Prime is a little predictable, but fits w/ everything else.

Yay! General Hammond. (R.I.P. Don - we are *so* gonna miss you!)

Dude, Hayes, you need to FIX YOUR HAIR! You look like Gumby gone grey.

The President being offended that Ba'al hung up on him... amusing. Really. Not really a typical 'bad guy' thing to just hang up in the midst of a threat.

Awww - poor Ba'al. Doesn't he know that he should keep a closer eye on his evil girlfriend?

So, Ba'al dead, Teal'c trying to avenge, they run around and find Ba'al's secret hide-out and either they have to go back to the Cretaceous period or hold off fleets of Jaffa until Sam can find a better time.

Now, this whole 'they all die but one before getting through the gate at the last second' thing is a little stale. They did that in 2010 or whichever. As House says: "Ideas aren't soda cans, recycling sucks."

And of course that couldn't be the last Ba'al. No, there was to be another one lingering about so they can do this all again. Really, you know Daniel just wanted his leg back. *g*

Overall - same thoughts as w/ Ark of Truth - an extended SG-1 episode, really. It wasn't bad, it didn't suck, but it wasn't spectacular and 'OMG!'. It was just - good.

So - little discussion point:

** Landry telling Sam, Daniel and Mitchell that they don't have the right to change the timeline. Gotta say he's right. The timeline not matching up with what they know doesn't mean they are 'right' in changing it. Granted, Ba'al changed it first and is planning to take over Earth, but that doesn't mean SG-1 should change the timeline to meet what they know. It's the same as had they gone through the Quantum Mirror and gone back in time to alter timelines in those universes instead.

Of course, if they don't fix it, what we know of the world SG-1 lives in ceases to exist and Atlantis never happens. Odd how that's never mentioned.

Re: Stargate Continuum - **spoilers**

I saw the movie last night, and it was quite good.

There's just one thing that's obsessing me, though. In the final part, Mitchell stowed away in the vessel, so he could meet the aliens as they came through and kill them. Since this thread is a spoiler, I can say that he went back in time too early and had to wait ten years for this moment.

That's a good story, but I can't help thinking that, for the ten years, he had to scheme and plan for those few seconds, and it must be awful for him to think what would happen if he screwed up. I mean, he had to get on that one ship on that one trip, be in the right place just before the enemy came through, and kill all of them. What if he was arrested by the ship's crew and forced to stay in the brig? Or what if he was five minutes late and they got through without being killed instantly? Or what if he missed the ship's sailing time entirely?

I thank God this is just fiction and I didn't have to live through that.

I enjoy Continuum, specially since it was like a Goaul'd crash course. I just love all the past characters they bring for the movie.
