Thinking missile - anyone recalls this? Hi everyone! ![]() I remember reading (back when I was a kid) a short SF story about thoughts running through the electronic brain of a thinking missile prior to the launch against the enemy ship (spaceship, I guess - but can't remember that). It was a mixture of pre-suicidal thoughts about life, death, sense of life and a final and total euphory for the mission which is to be completed... Because the sense of that thinking missile's life was all in that single one-way mission. (By the way, it sounds sadly like quite a contemporary stuff, doesn't it? )Anyone else recalls reading that story and what was it's title?

Re: Thinking missile - anyone recalls this? Sounds reminiscent of Dark Star film screenplay which was over 20years ago. ![]() Doolittle: Hello, Bomb? Are you with me? Bomb #20: Of course. Doolittle: Are you willing to entertain a few concepts? Bomb #20: I am always receptive to suggestions. Doolittle: Fine. Think about this then. How do you know you exist? Bomb #20: Well, of course I exist. Doolittle: But how do you know you exist? Bomb #20: It is intuitively obvious. Doolittle: Intuition is no proof. What concrete evidence do you have that you exist? Bomb #20: Hmmmm.....well.....I think therefore I am.

Re: Thinking missile - anyone recalls this? After reading your reply, I've found the (complete?) dialogue between Dr. Doolitle and Bomb #20 here: "www2.english.uiuc.edu/cybercinema/bomb20.htm" Yeah, that's quite similar as a basis of the story though it is not the one I've read as a kid. Perhaps the stories have influenced each other, though they are not really the same. The one I'm talking about was more inside the brain of the missile, more introspective. Thanks for the hint, I've learned something new today. ![]()

WWD : Yes and vastly underated as I recall. I don't remember it being filmed in the cinema so it must have been on the TV. Must look up the DVD. 10CC's "Clockwork creep" invokes similar thoughts I'm a clockwork creep And I can't get to sleep They wind me up and let me go And I can't unwind Going out of my mind My time is coming soon you know Tick a tick a time bomb Tick a tick a time bomb Tick a tick a time bomb .....
