You just summed up my mum in a sentence.

Re: Child protection Laws

Lioness, your poor mum probably watches the news. The media is the biggest force pushing society to fear itself.

Nope, doesn't watch the news, she is just very protective of her (not so) 'baby girl'

Re: Child protection Laws

I heard Esther Rantzen on LBC radio this morning concerning this article in The Daily Mail today:
I launched Childline to protect the most vulnerable - but unleashed a politically correct monster | Mail Online

She agrees with everything we have just said here. It is as if she had read it! On the radio she said exactly the same things about CRB checks that I just posted, and she has been criticised herself for kissing the top of a child's head.

Re: Child protection Laws

What ever happened to "It takes a village to rase a child"?

When I was a kid my brother and I went out in the morning and came home at night, we went on adventures in the bush, we made bows and arrows, cubby houses etc.. with our friends and everyone knew their neighbours and people watched out for all the kids. I remember when I was about 5 one of the local kids went missing, he would have been only 3 anyway the whole suburb went looking for him, within minutes of his mum finding him not in the back yard (he was found 3 streets over hiding under someones truck, thinking he was having a great time) Now your lucky if you even know the names of your neighbours.

As for child protection here, I think it is laughable. Sure they have these blue cards but they only pick up on if you have a record of such things. Also we have a system where the child protection agencies are so understaffed and overworked you get the kids who are really in need of protection slipping through the cracks and suffering.

I put my son in daycare twice a week, and I have no problem with his teachers giving him hugs or comforting him when he is upset. I know a girl who works for a different childcare place and they aren't allowed to tell the children "NO" or "Don't" "Stop" because they are negative words. &%^*!!! What do you tell a toddler who is bighting another kid? You can't reason with toddlers!!

Re: Child protection Laws

Two things caught my eye:

There is a third person in the taxi: the driver. I'm not an expert on child abuse, but I've always assumed that its perpetrators avoid doing it in public.

Then there was the statement:
"But only Mrs Jones and husband Malcolm, 42, who have another son Lucas, aged eight, are trained to use it [the Vagus Nerve Stimulation system]."
Given their faulty risk-assessment process, I'm surprised that Merthyr Tydfil Council allows the child to be on council property without access to someone who is trained to use the system.
