| Dragon Magazine 352: The World Of China Mieville I finally tracked down a (PDF) copy of this issue of Dragon Magazine. I was expecting maybe a 12-page featurette, but was completely blown away: no fewer than 40 pages dedicated to Bas-Lag, with a myriad of information on places, creatures, history and so on, as well as dozens of gorgeous illustrations of scenery and creatures. Plus, an excellent interview with China Mieville. There was so much packed into those 40 pages. A lot of it was stuff I'd never read before, not even in Mieville's books, so it makes me feel that at least some of it is non-canon, but still, it really enriches Mieville's world. The best part for me was a map of the continent Rohagi (unfortunately it's labelled "Komagi", don't know where they got that from), featuring most of the cities/locations from the three novels. It was great to finally see the shape of the land he describes - I'd tried numerous times to map it myself but always got muddled up. Also included is a map of New Crobuzon but it's almost identical to the one in the front of PSS, so it wasn't that exciting. Anyway, I thought I'd share the maps here, because the only other place I found them online was some small Slovenian forum. ![]() ![]() The maps are probably also non-canon, and I can think of a few things wrong with them already (wasn't High Cromlech far, far north? And Tesh more west than that?) but they're still amazing reference. I want to share more of the article but I don't want to break any forum rules about copyrighted material... |

| Re: Dragon Magazine 352: The World Of China Mieville It's here: RapidShare: Easy Filehosting (19Mb) Hopefully it won't disappear after a number of downloads. (I didn't upload it there, someone else did a while ago, so I'm not sure how long it will last) Also, hopefully after you guys read it there can be some discussion about it in this thread ![]() |
