Re: Least Favorite Characters

Whoa, whoa there MacMoney, you just brought up 4 characters that are much beloved by most fans on these boards (maybe Brienne less than the other three).

I will let someone more articulate than I am right now express shock at the inclusion of our dear feisty and soon-to-be assassin Arya; the true heir to Horn Hill, seducer of Wildling women and slayer of the Others, Sam Tarly; wielder of Oathkeeper Brienne; and last but not least the Mother of Dragons and Freer of Slaves and rightful heir to the Iron Throne Dany.

Them fighting words...

I guess I'm wondering just how exciting one should expect a girl of that age to be... I also feel that what Arya witnesses and thusly, what we see through her eyes lends much to the story. She's damn cool, and you know it.

I'm not sure how Arya is unrealistic and Brienne is less so? Arya is a tomboy, and Brienne is pretty much a full-fledged knight. I'd say that's taking "tomboy" several steps further. I'd like to know what you think of Asha- is she unrealistic? Because in my opinion, Asha is pretending harder than either Arya or Brienne.

I think Sam will be crucial in the battle against the Others. He's a great source of information for Jon. And... what's all this about "not doing much," anyway? What exactly do you expect these characters to do? Realistically, they're each only one person, and they all do more in each chapter than I fit into a regular week.

Still, I like her much more than the three first mentioned just because she is a Targaryen and very pivotal to the big plot.
Hmmm.... Okay, Dany's definitely NOT my favorite character. She really doesn't "do much" either, though- not on her own, anyway. As you said, the dragons lend quite a bit to what happens in her chapters. So... if Sam/Arya/Brienne each had a dragon of their own, would what they do in each chapter seem more significant? (I'm really just teasing you here.)

Brienne, Arya, and Sam are just as much victims of circumstance as Cersei or Tywin. They've just dealt with it differently.

Re: Least Favorite Characters

But Dany has the best bits!!!! In AGOT she provided a break from the monotony of the Seven Kingdoms, and did so with cool domestic plots, lots of sex, death, fighting, babies, witchcraft and, yes dragons. Then came crazy free cities and all their customs and the Unsullied were just 'wow'.

Praise Dany

If I were Canadian I might take that as an insult, but I'm American so I'll take it as Gospel.
