If it's lest liked lesser characters, I offer Ser Hyle Hunt (the one who travels with Brienne), Bolton's bastard and both Kettleblacks.

| Everybody's got their favourite "least favourite" character. One of endearing elements of this story is Martin's ability to use characters, even his minor characters add a lot in the way of colour. Among the lesser characters I found despicable, and worthy of a nasty ending (or have already gotten it): 1. Jorah Mormont - big loser, shows that Sandor is right about knights. Let's down his father, his wife, and letcherous to boot. 2. Robert Baratheon - a drunk and wife beater, no self control at all! A pathetic end for a pathetic person. 3. Shae - a whore in the trashiest way, one of the few characters to receive vengence from the one she betrayed by testifying against Tyrion. Her ending added a lot to the closing of SOS, and reveals much about Tywin Lannister; which many here don't talk about much. 4. Ser Boros Blount (i think) - the sop who helped save Sansa. He was merely a lowlife, until Littlefinger revealed that he actually just sold Sansa, despite her saving his life. His ending was fitting. 5. The Kettlebacks - all of them, stupid and adolescent. They'll make good fodder for Martin! There's a lot to choose from....might be worth a thread! |

What an odd thing to criticise Jorah for. Everything we know about Lynesse and Jorah shows that he did everything he could think of, including letting down his father, in an attempt not to let her down, before she finally left him. I mean, what exactly are you criticising him for there? Not doing enough to please Lynesse? Quote:

| Re: Least Favorite Characters I also found the inclusion of Jorah Mormont as odd and counter to my vision and understanding of the character. Sure, his love or infatuation for Dany was a little disturbing (the age difference mostly) but he's a character that needs redumption of some kind. He needs to find peace with himself, his past and a place in the future. Will he remain loyal to Dany. I hope he does but I alse recall the Old Bear's dying words to Sam or Jon (can't remember which one) that his son has been forgiven in his father's eyes and he should take the black. Maybe he won't need to if Dany wins back the throne and gives him Bear Island. |

I don't have much of a soft spot for Ser Jorah. He thinks with the little head, as it were, and makes some pretty stupid decisions. He really needs to man up.

- What!? He's... he's old. Not to mention he betrayed her. He was spying on her the whole time! He's a sellout!

| Re: Least Favorite Characters Shame on you Arya...his age shouldn't matter if it's true love. The fact that he's a half-witted loser who fails at everything he does is the reason why she should hate him, not his age. Looser-ness is a good reason to hate him. |

| Re: Least Favorite Characters Okay, so it wouldn't exactly be Harold and Maude-esque, but still... she's a little young for him. Just a wee bit. And yes, he is a total loser. You just want to sit him down, take his hand, and have a nice long talk with him about his decision-making skills. |

| Re: Least Favorite Characters Arya Stark - A tomboy in a time and place where such things were unheard of. Unrealistic, seems to get away with much due to plot devices. Bland as a character and never does anything really interesting. Brienne Tarth - Another tomboy though somewhat more believable. Another bland character who isn't involved in anything that's worth mentioning. Her chapters in AFFC were just dull and didn't have much bearing on anything that's happening in the series. Samwell Tarly - Yet another bland character who doesn't do much. His chapters in the beginning of AFFC at least had Aemon Targaryen in them and his talks and feverish ravings had some interesting things in them but besides that, Samwell's chapters just bored, except the very last one. Daenerys Targaryen - She seems to get her way too easily and the dragons seem too much like plain plot devices for her to get her way. Also, things have gone on for four books already and her doings haven't had much to do with the actual interesting stuff going on in the Seven Kingdoms. Still, I like her much more than the three first mentioned just because she is a Targaryen and very pivotal to the big plot. There are some minor characters that I don't much care for like Beric Dondarrion, Hodor, Rickon, Areo Hotah (I think that was the name), Belwas and I guess others who I can't remember right now. Then there are characters that I would like to see dead (some are) but still like in a way because they are (or were) important for the story. Gregor Clegane, Alliser Thorne, Janos Slynt, Dontos, Petyr Baelish. Actually Gregor Clegane makes for such great stories, names and fights that you gotta like him even though he has no real redeeming features. Just the nickname, The Mountain That Rides, and the sheer imposing bulk and The Hound's want for revenge makes for amazing storytelling. With Littlefinger it's the sheer unbelievable scheming and how much into the future he has planned everything. Who does he actually work for and how far does he want to go with his powermongering? I can understand why people hate or dislike such characters as Cersei, Robert Baratheon, Tywin etc. but I find that at least the three I mentioned are all victims of circumstances and very tragic characters, Cersei especially having to marry the man who killed the only man she ever really had feelings for. |
