Speculation and predictions.

Hello all. I am new to the forum. But not the series.(read 4-5 times through) I was curious what everyone thinks will happen in the 12th and final book,i.e... Galad marries Berealin. Rand has to live because of Min's viewing that Aviendha would have several of Rand's babies. For example. So don't hold back and get deep and dirty. I'm curious what unfolds. BTW nice to be here. Thanks for having me....-JAA

Welcome, James.

I don't have any predictions, as I am just now reading The Great Hunt. (Already had the ending spoiled by reading this forum, but I don't mind. )

I just wanted to welcome you.

Re: Speculation and predictions.

I think you're title explains it well enough that spoilers are pretty much a given in this thread. Nothing too exciting here, it's been awhile since I read the last one and although I probably know the first 5 back to front it's all a bit hazy after that.

Mat will enter the Tower of Ghenjei again and beat the Elfinn by changing the rules aka the snakes and foxes game.

Loial will lead the Ogier to war in the final battle and afterwards the ways will reopen with the Ogier will becoming it's caretakers.

The Aiel and the Tinkers make up, ending the Tinkers quest for the song and the Aiel's guilt.

Logain will become the new leader of the Black Tower.

The Dark Ones prison has to be remade not patched, ready to be completely forgotten and start all over again.

The combination of the resergance of both saidin and saidar and Rand's efforts to promote invention/engineering will begin the progress towards the next age of legends.

and Berlain and Galad end up together and have extremely good looking children .

Re: Speculation and predictions.

If Rand doesn't die, I'm going to be highly disappointed. No offence to the lad, but it's the only satisfactory outcome: The Dragon* must die in the Last Battle.

*It's been a while since reading this series - he's called the Dragon, right?

Re: Speculation and predictions.

Technically LTT is called the Dragon.

Rand is the Dragon Reborn.

I'm uncertain what exactly binds them, but they are not completely the same person. They look different, have different experiences...[spoiler]... and Rand periodically has disagreements with the man.[spoiler]

Re: Speculation and predictions.

At this point I'd almost agree with you JDP. All through the series I've expected Rand to survive the last battle (bleeding from his wound onto Shayol Ghul but not dying as everyone in the book expects) but more and more I'm thinking maybe he will die. It would certainly make things easier to wrap up with Min, Elayne and Aviendha, except Aviendha is going to have children to Rand and I don't think she's pregnant yet?

In the end I think Rand will somehow die and be reborn/brought back which IMO runs the risk of being a bit of a cop out.

If Rand does survive I wonder if it's Min that dies? Elayne would go back to rule Andorra and Rand disappearing into the waste with Aviendha.

Re: Speculation and predictions.

Again, I'm working off my slightly shoddy memory, but wasn't Elayne pregnant? Perhaps both Rand and Elayne die, leaving Aviendha with their twins (why do I think it's twins? Is that in the book or has my memory just thrown that in for kicks?).

Re: Speculation and predictions.

While there's a good chance that Rand will die, there is also a high probability for the opposite. Throughout the series, Robert Jordan has not shown an affinity for killing off characters. He has so many of them, {Spoiler} and yet very none of the better known "hero" characters have perished. {Spoiler!}

It wouldn't surprise me if Rand lived, although it may be better if he did die. I don't know, but his death hasn't been something I've expected to happen, which might sound strange. RJ's writing just never made me feel as though any of them would die.

I agree. Jordan seems to behave in this fashion.
If Sam were to throw Frodo in to the flames, at the end of all things. In order to stop him from keeping the ring, it would be more poetic.
But Jordan (and Tolkien alike) is of a mind to keep his guys alive.
Moraine, for example. Dying would have been a great finish to her story. Logain, Siuan, or Leane. Even being killed spiritually; cut off from the one source. He will not let them die.

Re: Speculation and predictions.

I'm new and haven't read all of the posts regarding the series, so forgive me if I blather on about what has already been said.

It's been a way since I put down the last book. I feel like the last books are an uphill climb with incremental plot movements set in a beautifully woven setting.

But having said that, I expect to be disappointed. I like/almost love the saga. But there are way too many subplots and stray threads for one book to pull together satisfactorily. I think I'll enjoy it, but I think the task is just too monumental.

Just thought I'd chip in and say howdy.

Re: Speculation and predictions.

I haven't read the series for a while now, and whilst I am looking forward to seeing how all of the many subplots come together, I wonder how it will all fit into one book. Right now, I couldn't speculate on what happens to who, but I'm content to wait and see.

Although that isn't of too much use in a thread like this.

And welcome to both of you, James and Joseph.

Re: Speculation and predictions.

It's been a long time since I've been keen to read these books and the last few I read long after they were released just picking them up when I couldn't see anything else I really wanted to read. Still I am looking forward to reading this final chapter, if nothing else there's been a LOT of hours invested in those books and I want closure .

I agree that people aren't likely to die but I hope there's going to be some twists that we don't see coming so in that vein I'll stick with my prediction that there will be some sort of death and resurection for Rand rather than just have him bleed without dying as he is hoping to do.

So who rules where after the final battle?

I suppose Mat has to go overseas to the Seachan home, it'd be a shame to see them split up that much after everything the characters have been through but I suppose they're all going to have access to gateways anyway. Also isn't the Seachan prophesied to keep control of a lot of the land they have invaded, maybe Mat and Tuon will rule the Seachan from this side? He's got at least one good ally in Altara and Beslan.

I'd be suprised if Perrin doesn't go back to the Two Rivers but then what about Saldaea?

Rand? I'd like to see him go back to the Aiel Waste and maybe bring Rhuidean back to life.

Re: Speculation and predictions.

There seems to be several ideals I had not conisdered. Rather thought provoking. Now tell me does anyone have any clue as to what "Suian's Puzzle" may be concerning the young sitters in Egwene's camp. I have my theory but am open to yours.
