Mike Oldfield

Who is a Mike Oldfield fan here? I just bought his new CD Music of the Spheres and I cant stop listening to it! He is the best electronic/experimental musician and he keeps getting better (if that were even possible). If you haven't heard him then you are missing out! You can check out his myspace where he has a few songs and videos that you can listen to. Here is a link to make it a bit easier, myspace.com/michaeloldfield

Re: Mike Oldfield

I didn't even realize Mike Oldfield was still making music. Its been quite awhile since I played any of his stuff but I had a few albums in my time including Tubular Bells and Five Miles Out (which I loved)
When I made the transition from albums & tapes to CD's I didn't bring Mike with me, I am thinking I should go out and get some of his stuff. Is the new music as good as his older music?

He has his moments, his renditions of, 'The William Tell Overture,' (the Lone Ranger) and the Shadows', 'Wonderful Land.' are amazing.

Re: Mike Oldfield

I have heard quite a bit of mike over the years, but mostly on tape. I now have Tubular Bells and Songs of Distant Earth(based on the Arthur C Clarke book) on CD but need to get more. I want to hear that Music of the Spheres album and also get some older albums like Ommadawn and Crises.

Well, I wasn't going to mention that, for fear of accusations of partisanship against the place, but...

Re: Mike Oldfield

And not to mention 'Discovery' and 'Killing Fields' - the latter still gives me gooseflesh.

And I'll second (or should that be 'third'?) that 'Ommadawn', 'Five Miles Out', 'Crises' and (of couse) 'Tubular Bells' are all classics and worthy of a listen. (My all-time favourite 'Moonlight Shadow' happens to be from Crises).

Haven't tried anything more recent, perhaps I should give some of the albums a whirl.
