Ok...

Re: 30.05: The Poison Sky

I'm guessing that even a genius would have a problem creating new functionality by simply screwing a few existing bits of equipment together.

(The Doctor wasn't in the A-Team, you know. )

Um...this might be a bit garbled...the character of the alleged daughter in the next episode is played by Georgia Moffett, the real-life daughter of the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davidson, and Sandra Dickinson.

It wasn't new functionality though. It was an atmospheric converter, and that's what it did - it converted the atmosphere.

I don't see how you're not getting this

Pyan, my apologies. Teach me to use a TV guide as a source of knowledge

So basically, Thaddeus is right...he "reversed the polarity", so instead of turning the Earth's atmosphere into that of the Sontarans clone-making world, itrestored the half-converted air back to Earth normal.

Re: 30.05: The Poison Sky

What a good episode this was, just the right balance of peril and humour. Plus we got another Rose teaser thrown in with that 'blink and you'll miss it' moment. They do seem to have this PR speculation buzz-generating thing down this series. It just keeps getting better, long may it continue.
As with everyone, I loved the 'are you my mummy?' self-reference, although I believe it was in the script, ctg, not an improv. It was a brilliant throwaway remark at the right time.

I did notice that when Donna slapped The Doctor that it was a real whallop, not a stage slap. I wonder if Mr Tennant discovered a bruise the next day.

It does seem that Donna is growing on a lot of us as the new companion, probably because there is no unrequited love story going on, which allows time for more development. There is also a large element of Catherine Tate not being as annoying as she was at first and the fact that, despite her comedy not being to my liking, she is a good actress, and that's what counts.

Which is what I've been saying.

Pardon (see above)? But here's the relevant dialogue (as best as I could capture it, that is):
DOCTOR: And all the time we had Luke here and his dream factory. Planning a little trip, were we?
LUKE: They promised me a new world.
DOCTOR: You were building equipment ready to terraform El Mondo Luko so if you were to** live there and breathe the air with this: an atmospheric convertor.
So the equipment was already designed to do what we saw it do, which is what I thought I said (pun about "chipping in" excepted). All the doctor did was assemble it (give or take hitting it with a hammer, that is; oh, and using the sonic screwdriver to "glue" the bits together).

** underlined text: this is what it sounded like, but I think I'm mis-hearing these words as they don't fit in with the end of the sentence.

Re: 30.05: The Poison Sky

This was a great episode, the thump the Sontaron got from Donna sounded great, a real oof!

Damn fine episode. This was well written well acted and Are you my Mummy was brilliant.

There was however just only one little niggle, sadly a shot of the Valliant against a city scape wasnt very well done it just looked bad, thankfully it wasnt very long, but apart from that nice one, keep it guys!

Again. Its been a while since I've had chemistry, seeing as I study civil engineering, but there are chemical reactions that can look like fire that doesn't produce the same heat, or for that matter uses oxygen.

And as far as I understood the dialog the "atmospheric converter" was made by Rattigan and his brain-trust based on Sontaran technology, not made by the Sontarans themselves, and Rattigan was after all extremly gifted. It just need a few adjustments by the Doctor to be calibrated on the specific gases from the Atmos devices and power from the sonic screwdriver.

I think we're arguing at cross purposes

Then perhaps you could tell me what you think I'm not getting.

(Oh, and I don't feel at all cross. )

Here here! In fact he'd most likely be a much better companion than Martha. Giving up travelling with the Doctor to get married?! Crazy girl!

I really enjoyed this episode & am liking Donna more and more. I'm hoping we see Captain Jack in this series as it'd be interesting to see how those two would get along!

Re: 30.05: The Poison Sky

Ooh, spoilers... they always try to tempt me, but I must resist! I gave in this morning and read a whole load of Neighbours spoilers... it was fun at the time, but I'm regretting it now!

Thanks for the link though, I might be lured in to the thread later..
