Terminator 3?

It's just out in the UK at the moment, but we still haven't had a babysitter for Matrix-Reloaded yet - maybe this week??.

Anyway, I'm simply curious of the impressions from anyone who's actually seen T3 - does it stand well either on its own, or in conjunction with the other films? Or is T3 simply an expensive and pointless cash-cow?

T3 is a FUN movie. You'll be entertained from beginning to end. As far as I'm concerned, that's what a movie should be. Who cares if the plot has been the same for all three Terminator movies. (smile)

Ah - you're probably right. I can be a real snob when it comes to film, but at the moment even just fun is quite appealing. As I've never subscribed to a deep and meaningful exploration of the Terminator universe, I'm sure there won't be any real criticism on that front.

Re:Terminator 3?

Okay, here is my opinion on the T3 movie (i know I am setting myself up for some major flaming probably). Okay, first let me say, please ignore the fact that I am obviously female. I enjoy a good "blow everything to pieces" movie as much as the next guy.

But in my opinion, T3 could have done a lot better. Some of the action sequences were good, but it was basically the same exact plot, lines, and even jokes - all over again. There was virtually no new material. It was great seeing Arnie again in a Terminator flick, but the rest of the cast (especially using Claire Danes), just ruined the whole idea. To me it seems they were doing what the Karate Kid people did with theirs when they brought a woman in as the main character. It would have been a lot better if they could have come up with an original plot line for this one.

All in all, its okay for an action flick...I mean, there have been MUCH worse movies made (*cough* feardotcom *cough*), but the 1st & 2nd ones were much better done in my humble opinion

Terminator and T2 both had magnificient plots, that intertwined perfectly with very few continuity errors, the time-paradoxes were intellegently addressed and made sense. Yes "T3 is a FUN movie", it's also a DUMB movie. For a start everything T2 established about the continuity of time (i.e. "the future is an open road" speech at the end) was destroyed by T3. Apparantly the future can't be changed, but it can be posponed - how the hell does that make sense! As my mate Mark so beautifully put it "James Cameron's career must be turning in its grave". Indeed after the "disaster" movie Titanic Cameron probably couldn't sink much lower in my estimation, but even he had the sense to turn down this script. I think that the saddest thing is, the audience loved it.

I 100% wholeheartedly agree, but I'd of put it much harsher. I agree that some of the action sequences were good, in particular the one in which Arnie is hanging from the crane kicking through buildings. I too am a fan of good "blow everything to pieces" movies, what Arnie fan isn't, Commando being an obvious example of how to do a great "blow everything to pieces" movie. However the Terminator franchise has always been a well thought-out franchise, with even the amusment ride showing continuity to the 2 original film, there is absolutely no need to make a "blow everything to pieces" movie out of T3, and even if thats how its meant to be taken, there wasn't even enough "blowing **** up" to appreciate the film on a Commando level. The whole female Terminator thing was pathetic too (now don't get me wrong, I'm not being sexist) but I think it was simply a case of sex sells. Remember the film had a 12 rating, making the youngest of those to see the film not even born when T2 came out, so rather than try to sell the film to a 12-15 audience of the many merits of its predecessors, it would appear the filmmakers have simply included an attractive young star to "woo" its newly targeted younger teenage audience (the 2 previous films being 18 and 15 rated, respectively). The whole Claire Danes fate-brought-us-together-because-this-is-hollywood-subplot was attrocious at best. Can Hollywood not produce anything where the 2 main characters haven't somehow magically met a decade earlier, the whole premise has worn very thin by now. I feel sorry for Arnie really, this should have been his huge comeback film, and he really does look like he did in T2. The guy is in his 50's and has undergone major heart surgery and then built his body back up to the condition it was in in 1991 (despite a huge amount of medical disapproval) only to be fed a script like this - it's no wonder Linda Hamilton wouldn't touch the film with a 10 foot barge-pole.

I think the only redeemable feature in the whole film (bar Arnie obviously) had to be the ending, and it would have worked even without the rest of the plot-irradications. It was somewhat unexpected, and very downbeat for a Hollywood film, however even still, there was no aftermath scenes, which more-or-less made it a trailer for the next film.

Unfortunately the general consensus seems to be one of mass approval, so I expect T4 and T5 (both of which are confirmed) to be equally soul-destroying. I'm not holding my breath for them........

P.S. And on an incredibly nerdy geeky nitpicking footnote
Question - How do you make a Terminator thats made out of 100% liquid metal more advanced?
Answer - Put a skeleton inside it.
(Yeah that was a nerdy point - but a valid one)

... .. ... ... .. . [exhaling now] .. ... ... . .. . .... .. .

Now nobody mention T3 again - LOL
