Re: May's (Mostly) Marvelous Literary Musings

Finished The Black Company by Glen Cook. I very much enjoyed it, and will definitely continue with the series.

Started Messiah by Gore Vidal and promptly gave up on it.

Finished Maelstrom by Peter Watts. Floored me. I wouldn't have thought Starfish would lead to something like this.

In an "it's been too long" return to non-fiction, I just started The Panda's Thumb by Stephen Jay Gould.

Re: May's (Mostly) Marvelous Literary Musings

Just finished The Family Trade by Charles Stross. That was very good, looks like I'll be reading the rest of the series soon; as if I didn't have enough books on my 'to read' pile

Now starting The Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe, which looks to be good, though I've only read a few pages so far.

Elak of Atlanis by Henry Kuttner

Religion by Tim Willocks is the second ringer, the one i read 50% of the time.

Dont see why i must read only one book at the time anymore.

I am half-way through Maia by Richard Adams. This is a long novel, but I cannot put it down.
Next will be Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.

Re: May's (Mostly) Marvelous Literary Musings

After a false start several months ago, I'm now doing a reread of Sam Moskowitz' (ed.) Under the Moons of Mars: A History and Anthology of the "Scientific Romance" in the Munsey Magazines, 1912-1920. (This in addition to Laing's Haunted Omnibus....)

I'm taking a break from Dorothy Sayers to reread Prince Caspian before I go to see the movie next week.

Re: May's (Mostly) Marvelous Literary Musings

Finally, Finally, finished War of the Flowers by Tad Williams... really really enjoyed it but it was a bit slow-going sometimes... fabulous premise though and excellently executed.

Now I'll probably start reading Slave by Mende Nazer for my book group.

xx

Started off on Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill. At a quarter into, it is rather cliched but written in a breezy and likable enough manner to get along.

I also thought it was slow sometimes but that didnt bother at all unlike other slow fantasy i have read. There was there interesting elf, fairy world to make you sail through the slow parts.
