One of my favourite authors, Sirathiel I enjoyed Hythrun Chronicles and also the next two books in her current series The Tide Lords.

At the moment I have almost finished ‘Arguments of Kings’ book 3 of ‘The First Law’ by our Joe Abercrombie. Another book that is hard to put down, for it has a marvelous story line. The characters are great, especially Superior Glokta. I'm still undecided if I should hate this man or feel sorry for him.

First Law is a great story and not only that, the 3 books look so good in my bookcase! The book covers look and feel as if they are ‘parchment’, they certainly caught my eye, as they are so different from many other book covers.

Alas, I'll be working and will miss it. I will, however, be doing what I can to bring a little Rankin fever to the office.

I spent quite some time in various bookstores looking at her books and trying to decide if they were worth the plunge and the financial investment. Lucky me resisted the lure of the books until I discovered them in the bookshelf of a good friend.
She recommended to read the trilogy that consists of Wolfsblade, Warrior and Warlord before starting in on the trilogy dealing with the demon child.

So far it's been a most interesting experience (for me at least) since I'm not (yet) used to this "kind" of fantasy. But I must say it's quite refreshing!

Finally given in to the blandishments, and due to the number of times it's been recommended here, and in spite of the fact it's written in the first person, have started Assassin's Apprentice, by Robin Hobb...

Now reading Jessica by Bryce Courtenay. Not science fiction, but a great book.

I left the Saroyan book I had just started at work last night, and I started another book in its place:

Deliverance.

So far, it is really good. About 100 pages in.

Read Alastair Reynolds’ Redemption Ark earlier this month. I wouldn’t want to live in the future it paints, and I don’t find many of the characters likable. Nonetheless, the storyline is engrossing and breathtaking in scope. I can see why this series and author have gotten so much acclaim. I rate this one 9 out of 10. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

Re: May's (Mostly) Marvelous Literary Musings

I couldn't be bothered to haul the hardback book with me on holiday, so took the huge 99 pager MEN OF STEEL by Terrance Dicks (Well it was free with a magazine) and found myself all nostalgic for my youth wehn so many of the Target Doctor Who books were written by the gentleman above. Okay it was an easy read, but fun.

From the man himself! My publishers are postponing the publication of Necrophenia until December. As it is my thirtieth book they are going to make something of a fuss of it with a big book tour in January.6 more Months.

It's a tradition, or an old charter or something.

But yeah. Damn.

Re: May's (Mostly) Marvelous Literary Musings

Completed A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold. This one seemed 90% romance and 10% space opera. It seemed really weak compared to Redemption Ark, which I read just before this one. This only rates a 4 out of 10 for me, but those who enjoy romance works would probably like it a lot better. I’ve enjoyed many books in this series, but now I’m glad there’s only one left.

Well it seems I got a reply from Rankin himself!
Be great if he came to my town's book shop for a signing!
