I'll have to rush out and buy that once I've read Grave Peril, which I've just started in on.

Heh i learned from my mistakes i have book 5 ready to pick up the second i finish Summer Knight

Little warning of Grave Peril that its prudent to buy Summer Knight before you are finished with GP if you aint broke for books.

Its a calm feeling that raises the enjoyment level knowing you wont think "damn i have only pages left then i have to wait until i can buy the next book"

Yes, but then you catch up with the current books and you're stuck waiting for the new one like everyone else. *g*

I can imagine. Tuesday I should have money to buy both Summer Knight and Death Masks. Blood Rites I already have, so those should keep me for a little while. I'm on page 170 of GP, so I "just" need to make the rest last until Tuesday, but I'm going to work Monday, so maybe I can do it and get myself on a train to my favourite book pusher after work, Tuesday.

So what did you think of it ? The Nightmare thing ? Fae godmother everywhere which is nice since i like her. She is nasty but so interesting to read. God's warrior with the holy sword heh.

I'm half way through Fool Moon. I finished Storm Front in 3 days which is quick for me considering I'm not a fast reader and I have a 7 month old to take care of so I read while she naps.

Welcome to the forums and the fan club of HD

Whatever you think of Fool Moon, go through to Grave Peril.

That book raised my affection, respect for the series by a mile.

True enough! I'm still not a fan of "Fool Moon", there's just something about that particular story that doesn't suck me in, but get through it and move on to "Grave Peril" which is, probably, one of the strongest plots he's got. "GP" and "Death Masks" are still my faves, and we've got 10 books! =)

Welcome to the club! *g*

Re: Dresden Files Books newbie Discussion

Just discovered that I have the potential to become a JB newbie. Read first two chapters of Storm Front on his site and liked the lively, crisp style. Just ordered the book, hope it'll catch me.

Oooh! Yay!

If you liked the first two chapters, you're sure to like the rest of the first book! It really is good for a 'first' novel, and pretty darn good for the first in a series.

Just be sure to come back and let us know what you think! =)

Re: Dresden Files Books newbie Discussion

The first chapters of a series can, at times, be somewhat slow. I found the first hundred pages of The Fellowship of the Ring to be somewhat slow. Then it was black riders, running through the fields, getting to know Aragorn son of Arathorn, etc., etc.

I started with Storm Front just because it looked interesting for an author I did not know. I have bought every book as soon as it came out and switched to the Hardbacks, sigh, when they started, because I was loath to wait.

I am a big fan, obviously. Everyone should be. It is only right.

Will do! Questions: must the books be read in order? If not, which is the best one you'd like to recommend?

Re: Dresden Files Books newbie Discussion

The books must be read in order. Its not like a crime series where its about a new crime, characters every book.

Some of the books have stories, character they have in common and i have only read the first 4 books.

For example you cant read book 4 since it carries over what happened in book 3.

JB is really good also at building all the characters over the book. You have to read the first books to understand why they have the role they have in two, three books later.

Totally agree with Conn. I've read all the published books and it is much better to read them in order. See the list on Fantastic Fiction for the order in which to read them.
