Ellie is beautiful – that's an extended "mrouch", if you want to tell her I said so, and would have fitted splendidly into our tribe, had she been a blue point. | |

Re: Got cats? Ode To My Cat Felis Catus, known as She Dost thou wonder who made thee? Arméd thee with sharpest claws Hidden in thy tender paws Sightéd thee with pupils bright Lighting up the darkest night Voiced thee with a mewling caw 'Til your dish gets filled once more Felis Catus, known as She Cares not who her maker be Throned upon a favoured chair Whilst the world revolves 'round her

Re: Got cats? Nice verse, PM – you don’t mind me continuing, don’t you ?? Felix Catus, lucky you Just let out a little mew, the Butler will report to you, make open doors plus serve you stew You lay there dreaming all day long Preparing for your evensong Then suddenly you yawn and stretch Parading out the night to fetch. Felix Catus IS, but WHY ?? - sent from unknown world to spy ??

Re: Got cats? This appears on the Chrons a couple of times, but I don't think it's made this thread yet. Data's "Ode to Spot", from the Star Trek episode "Schisms": Felis Catus is your taxonomic nomenclature, an endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature. Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses. I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations, a singular development of cat communications that obviates your basic hedonistic predilection for a rhythmic stroking of your fur, to demonstrate affection. A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents; you would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance. And when not being utilized to aide in locomotion, it often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion. O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array, and though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend, I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

Re: Got cats? I've just stumbled onto this "Got Cats?" thread. Yes, we do, four of 'em, from a maximum enrollment at one time of seven. One nominally belongs to one of our children. C. S. Lewis observed the feline tribe with affection and wrote: "We were talking about cats and dogs the other day and decided that both have consciences but the dog, being an honest, humble person, always has a bad one, but the cat is a Pharisee and always has a good one. When he sits and stares you out of countenance he is thanking God that he is not as these dogs, or these humans, or even as these other cats!" --Letters to an American Lady, (Mary Willis Shelburne, March 21, 1955) p. 40
