what makes DW so good? i think it's the fact that dr Who is timeless (hehe joke )the sonic screwdriver have been around since the beginning of dr Who and never go away. they, however, keep getting better. i think also, the scripts and the casting are getting better - i think Catherine Tate is fab, she is a great actress. i never really thought of her as this until i saw her on dr Who - she just always seemed the immature comedian type - i love her now. so, what do you think is so great about DW? x ![]()

Re: what makes DW so good? The way that it keeps on changing and adapting to the times (and yet maintaining some continuity with its past) so that it never grows stale. And if you don't like one Doctor, you can some back to the series a few years later, and find out if you like the next one better. The decision to give the Doctor multiple regenerations, each one with a new face and new personality (the change from the first Doctor to the second was simply presented as a kind of rejuvenation, but that obviously wasn't going to work between Troughton and Pertwee), turned out to be a stroke of genius.

Re: what makes DW so good? DW is as you say timeless! I remember Dr Who before it was re-made. Tom Baker finishing and Peter Davidson taking over. In those days the effects were awful (CGI was seriously in its infancy) the sets oh lord lets not go on about those wobbly sets .Doctor Who's strength now and then was the fact that children watched it with their parents. A family show that didnt talk down to the children, a show the adults could watch and enjoy too. When Doctor Who started it was for children, but it quickly gained an adult folowing. Which over time the script writers began to exploit to help ratings. Dr Who is now firmly (In my opnion) based in the family bracket with enough to keep us adults interested, Russel T Davis grew up with Dr Who like I did and like me wanted Dr Who to come back. His genuis I think is that he keeps hard core fans happy while keeping new fans young and old alike happy. No easy task while keeping your artistic vision intact. I think that this mix of old and new keeps Dr Who timeless lets hope it stays that way for a long time! ![]()

Re: what makes DW so good? I think Russel T Davis has taken a risk with Tate, he risked upsetting fans of both Dr Who and Catherne Tate. Billie Piper was also not well known for her acting (just an brief POP career) he took a chance with her, and it payed off. Cahterene tate from what I have seen is a brilliant actress (she has done some straight roles) and after watching the comic relief Dr Who sketch I actually think she was hired on her merits. I think overall she's shaping up well. The hoo hah and publictiy hasnt hurt Dr Who and that to me is what were looking for. I dont think Russel T Davis would risk his reputation looking for stars who are bad actors. even for the publicity. Just my opnion!![]()

Re: what makes DW so good? I remember seeing a few episodes of the old Doctor Who when I was a child. My father would watch DW on PBS (it was the only way in the US in the '80s) and it was always on after my bed time, so it was a rare treat to watch an episode with my father. For about the last year or so, we've had BBC America at home and I rediscovered DW. Unfortunately, I saw it hit and miss and have only recently found out that David Tennant is the 2nd (10th) Doctor in a series that's only 3+ seasons long. I guess turn over isn't that shocking in this show (please bear in mind I'm quite a DW novice). DW will always have that nostalgia of time spent with my father when I should have been in bed. I have found myself hooked on the show based on its own merits however. Not since the X-Files have I found a show so fascinating. Since we're one season behind over here, the jury is still out on this new companion for me.
