I will try and take a picture when I find a place in my apt with some good lighting, but anyways its a Martial Arts Meditation Recorder, (or Flute) and I have had lots of fun working out what sounds it can make. Cant find any sites that can tell me exactly which kind I have so that I can get and learn to read written music for it, but I'm pretty sure the point of a meditation flute is not to play what is written, but to play what is in one's heart and mind. or i'm just making assumptions because i'm uber excited and kinda lazy he loved the coconut mocha and i knew he remembered the story behind it without me having to say anything. I didnt have enough for two, but he let me have some of his so I still got to try my first coconut mocha with one of the people I like best to be around, *bucket list check mark* if we were the keeping score kind of friends this totally trumps the time I gave him a personalized copy of Pride and Prejudice. (yes nothing says Valentines day more than being called Mr Darcy by your very own Elizabeth) I wont get to see him for a while because I'm moving this week, and I have to share just one tiny "kiss and tell" moment because it is a joy my heart will sing about until I can enjoy his epic hugs again. he said "I'm not going to miss you, because I think about you all the time. You probably dont think I do, but..." and because that song 'leave a tender moment' was not playing in my head I followed up with "oh yes I do, I'm just that conceited "hard to type from up here in the clouds, so I'll stop babbling words at you. I dont know the words for expressing a heart so full of love and joy that I want to sing and skip and laugh so much I just end up crying, if they make a word for that let me know. Until then, my word for it is *Name Omitted* ps my new avi is a painting he gave me that he painted but the pict was taken before he framed it and gave it to me Last edited by hopewrites; 11th January 2012 at 01:10 AM. | Laundress Extraordinaire | Re: Shout your happy news to the world!!! depending on my breath control it has a haunting low vabrado (all stops covered) or once when I was playing around with few to no stops and getting it's upper register solid I covered all the stops expecting it to drop and it was octaveted (is that a word? it is now, and it means 'while the note I expected, not in the octave i expected) up and what was normally (and ever since, since I havent been able to duplicate my 'mistake') a low mournful sound of nostalgia became a heartbroken cry of loss. It 'sings' beautifully. If it's melancholy now I think that is an expression of the player and her ability to find what she is looking for. ("oh getting all meditative on us now are you hope?" *smirk* "well it is a meditation flute" [ok recorder, but flute is easier to type]) and in case I didnt already say "I Love it" I do, I love the sound, I love the feel of the wood, I love the solidarity of it in my hand. I love that when I tried spinning it around like a baton it went all off balance on me which derailed the train of thought I was crashing into. Thrice today I stopped myself from having a major stress meltdown because I stopped to play, and the necessary breath control for the kind of solid notes I want 'just happened' to be the kind of breathing that neutralizes adrenaline so that my stress levels dropped and I was able to keep up my semblance of a sane creature. |

| Destroyer of Words | Re: Shout your happy news to the world!!! A semblance will do, most times ![]() It sounds fabulous. I wonder if it's a case of the right instrument finding its partner? Happy accidents come from somewhere deeper than planned virtuosity - that's my usual excuse, anyway - and obviously, if it's intended as an aid to meditation, it's going to request the kind of breathing that makes that more likely to be possible. The shape is ergonomic, I guess, but I wonder if its curves are echoed on the inside, as well. That might possibly explain how it affects your breath control, though I'm not entirely sure why. Still, anything I don't know I'll make up and let others prove me wrong later |

I know its been through more then two sets of hands at least, and am very happy it has found mine. the bit that is tied on is like a bridge or some other tuning device and my breath goes into a big hole at that end. so while it has the tember of a reed, its played like a brass. Lucky for me it is more diaphram then ombisher, so my music skills are not all invalid. | |

| Destroyer of Words | Re: Shout your happy news to the world!!! You could always say you thought of it first and see if I'd have the temerity to try and prove otherwise.... Can't wait to hear a recording of it (which is an almost polite way of pressuring you to do such a thing ) and see how you develop the sounds. How about if you did play it embouchure (sorry, my OCD wouldn't let me spell it wrongly ) for example? Would it even lend itself to that? Would that make it resonate in a different part of your head or chest?Just thoughts. I'll shut up, now ![]() Quote:
