I have collapsed!

Yes! it has happened...
Here in college I have struggled to keep up with my work and at the same time try and write my book... But apparently its not meant to be...
After 2 tests in one week and after realizing I had a report due in a week, I just.... collapsed....

I stopped doing....everything....

I have not written or thought about my book for almost 2 weeks now.... Is this making my life easier?.... well maybe... but I'm not happy about this....not at all....

Dont reply "welcome to college life!" or I will come through the computer and...and ...well I will do something!

Re: I have collapsed!

Well, you could take a break from writing until you're out of college maybe. Use the time to come up with ideas for your book in the free time. Maybe design the map to your world better. Think up new characters, or odd traits to current ones.

I shouldn't comment on time management though...I'm not doing any better than you and I have quite a bit of free time. Motivation—or lack of—sucks...

Re: I have collapsed!

I suspect this won't be much comfort to you at the moment, but every writer goes through periods (sometimes very long periods) where life is too complicated to keep on writing. Don't panic and don't despair. If writing is truly in your blood, when life eases up it will all come back to you. I promise.

2 weeks is nothing, my creativity has been rotting in the void for almost 6 months now, probably more.

Yeah, I'm probably hitting the six month mark too. Don't worry too much, keep at it when you can, and I'm sure you'll get back to it...

Re: I have collapsed!

Is it the story seeds that you need for getting back your creativity or is it something else?

Re: I have collapsed!

No... Everytime I open the book in the back of my head theres this person and he says "you should be writing the boring history report rather than writing this..."

How do I kill that person?
I'm not a murderer, but time has called for desperate measures....
hehe, just kidding...

....or am I?

...to be continued...

Re: I have collapsed!

I'm not too hot on the way great writers have organised their lives, but many of the great composers had to do their composing in their holidays (e.g. Mahler) or whatever time they could spare from conducting and/or performing. Some even had careers outside music.

(And a lot of the composers in the 19th century derived the bulk of their income from teaching their instrument to the offspring of the rich; I'm sure they'd have rather been finishing their latest sonata or character piece than teaching some bored child to do their finger exercises.)

So be patient (and keep listening to that voice in your head - unless it tells you to start killing, of course).

Re: I have collapsed!

You really don't want to murder that person. That person has your long-term interests at heart. And do you really think you could do your best work while there are so many distractions? The history paper will be of more value to you than a piece of writing you have to force out.

As uncomfortable as you feel now, it's not anything to worry about. (Suffer, oh yes, worry, no.)
