Casting the Scar Inspired by the GRR Martin one, because I can actually remember this book and it seems as though, properly-approached, the only hurdle to accurately realising it would be money and three hours of screen time. Namely, who would you cast for a film of The Scar. I reckon on Kate Ashfield from Shaun of the Dead as Bellis Coldwine.

Re: Casting the Scar This thread is such a puzzlier we're all stumped as to who to put forward Well I've had a think I feel Ralph Fiennes would take a good Uthor Doul. He is a very good actor, takes a sinster part well too and I can imagine he could pull off some of the strangeness of this character ![]()

Re: Casting the Scar I have difficulty in imagining any actor pulling off most of the characters in The Scar particularly well... though the guy who did Gimli in the LotR films might dop good as the cactus bloke. As the voice, I mean... I'm not too good on names either ![]()

Re: Casting the Scar I'm picturing Cate Blanchett as Bellis while reading the book. But she's described as having dark hair so she probably wouldn't be right for the role. Someone really scary should play Uther Doul. Ralph Fiennes who was mentioned would probably be better as Silas. He could also play the Lover with Rachel Weisz playing his wife.

Re: Casting the Scar Bob Hoskins was who I had in mind for the Tanner Sack character, although he might be rather old for this now. Yeah, Ralph Fiennes for the male Lover. Malcolm MacDowell for Johannes Tearfly. And Viggo Mortensen for Doul, it'd make a nicely different knight character for him ![]()

Re: Casting the Scar Um...you haven't heard of hair dye? And I would not call dark hair as the defining element of a character. Morgan Freeman's character from Shawshank Redemption was originally an Irishman called Red for his red hair.

Re: Casting the Scar China himself gave a cast list for this in an interview at Del Rey. It was: Bellis: Carrie-Anne Moss Tanner Sack: Sean Bean Uther Doul: Russell Crowe Silas: Ralph Fiennes The Lovers: Timothy Dalton and Angelica Houston Brucolac: Laurence Fishburne Tearfly: Malcolm McDowell Others (unspecified) would be played by Fairuza Balk, Don Cheadle, and Demitri Goritsas. This is old, so I wonder if he'd still cast it that way today.

Re: Casting the Scar Not that I know of, but I seem to recall reading Laurence Fishburne (again) as Isaac. Don't know if that was Mieville's idea. I actually read the cast list before reading the book, which may or may not have been a good idea because I actually pictured all those people in their roles.
