| Re: If there was a movie? In my personal opinion (something not many people might accept) Angelina Jolie and Catherine Zeta Jones dont have the Wisdom nor the Presence to play Polgara. THe Character Polgara would have to be someone that had an immense amount of Presence. Wisdom can be added later. But presence in a charactor as important as Polgara is very very important. as for Belgarath Sean Connery is definatly my first pick. as for the kid from Eragon dontcha think its a little too much for him doing the eragon movies then the belgariad? and true eragon ripped several things off other sci-fi fantasy classics. anyway Johnny depp definatly for Silk. uhh ya so theres my two cents worth so ya take it or leave it o for garion if he was still alive River Pheonix ( the kid who played young indy in the third movie) |

| Re: If there was a movie? I agree with a lot of what you say, Mastamystic. I don't think either of the two actresses - unless they change the way they act quite a bit (which is possible, I guess) - could play Polgara convincingly. Welcome to the Chronicles, by the way! ![]() |

| Re: If there was a movie? have got to say, i can't fathom the idea of Sean Connery for Belgarath, talk about lacking wisdom, and presence... the only presence i ever get off Sean Connery is wife beating menace. Not to mention the intollerable arrogance. Johnny Depp as Silk also rubs me the wrong way... he's far too good looking for starters and he only ever plays wierdos... Silk is highly strung and complex, but hes not essentially wierd. |

| Re: If there was a movie? I must admit, I can't quite see Sean Connery as Belgarath. Not sure who to suggest in his place, though. I don't think Ian McKellen would fit the role, either, not after playing Gandalf, at least. |

| Re: If there was a movie? I think David Tenant could do a good job of Silk, mostly becasue he's tremendous at accents and mannerisms, and that's what Silk does. Who else could play Belgarath? Tick boxes; older, distinguished, impish yet with gravitas.... I'm ressurecting the dead here, but possibly Oliver Reed would have carried it off with aplomb. ![]() And Polgara...difficult indeed, if Ms Jolie and Ms Zeta-Jones are out of the running. Again, tick boxes; statuesque, stately, presence and wisdom. This is going to be near impossible! I'll utilise my pocket time machine instead, go back to the 60's and cast Dame Diana Rigg. Emma Peel, but with the Will and the Word! Way cool. ![]() sorry about the pictures, not good at the technical stuff ![]() Last edited by HappyHippo; 16th March 2007 at 10:21 PM. | Re: If there was a movie? No problem about the pics! I think they're ok - much better than anything I could do! I couldn't agree more about David Tennant. He'd be a good choice for Silk. Oliver Reed (in that pic) and Diana Rigg look like they'd be great for Belgarath and Polgara. If only we had a time machine That would make casting a lot easier! |

but as for Johnny Depp for Silk y not? as far as i know Johnny can be complex if he wants too. and as for too good looking(he wasnt good-looking in Edward scissorHands and Charlie and the Chocolate factory).... this my friend is why they have Prostetics and i think he could do the job quite well...after al Captain Sparrow is quite the complex charactor in my way of thinking. o btw thanx for the warm welcome ![]() | |

| Re: If there was a movie? Hello again, MastaMystic. I'm not sure about casting Johnny Depp as Silk. I mean, he's a great actor, but I wonder if he would be able to shake the ghost of Jack Sparrow in the eyes of the viewing public in order to play Silk the way I'd like to see him played. The two characters are very different in my opinion, but if he could portray the complexities of Silk convincingly enough, then I'd be willing to change my opinion. |

| Re: If there was a movie? Hello again again...lol well as my mother would point out very readily (shes been a Depp fan since Jump Street) he lots of depth and more potential then other people would think. so maybe he might have a hard time shedding Sparrow but he shedded Scissor hands too.. |

| Re: If there was a movie? That's true, too. I've seen him in other films, and he doesn't seem to bring his characters through into his current ones. Maybe it's because Jack Sparrow was such a big character? I don't know. Definitely an interesting point to raise, though. With the exception of Garion, I think that Silk may just be the most complicated person to cast. ![]() Hey, that's my 1000th post! Thanks to everyone who helped me get this far! | Re: If there was a movie? Congrats Yes Silk is the hardest charactor to cast bar none although I still think Depp could do it. Jack Sparrow was a big charactor but remember he did Chocolate factory in-between PotC 1 and 2. i havnt seen the movie personnally because the movie isnt right. i mean y make a remake on a great movie (yes the origonal with Gene Wilder was great) anyway i seem to have gone on a bit of a tangent where were we? |

| Re: If there was a movie? Lol! Casting Silk? I see your point, though. I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and yes he was completely different in that. It's because Silk is somewhat of a rogue, too, that made me think that the viewers might keep comparing him with Jack Sparrow as well, especially the ones who haven't read the books. |

| Re: If there was a movie? i think we need to make a legion of warriors that force people to read the book b4 seeing the movie! anyone up for it? and as for Silk being a Rogue he is but in a good way theres good rogues and bad rogues. sparrow is definatly the latter whereas silk is the first... so in essence people cant compare direct opposites |
