Re: If there was a movie? That chef, he's southern and I think his name is Paul something. That guy always struck me as being good for Platime. Although, in all my hype for the upcoming Simpson movie I have been gripped with the idea of Bart Simpson playing Talen.

Re: If there was a movie? Watched 'Ripley's Game' tonight and started to think that John Malkovich would be well considered for two roles. First being Sparhawk. He fits the description being a bit older and none to pretty to look at, plus Sparhawk is often described as having an icy temper. Malkovich can play that very well, ever heard him in a role where he makes a threat on someones life with the same casual air of discussing the weather. Then, he would also be good at playing Martel who to me was a very urbane bad guy. I think Malkovich is also able to play urbane bad guys very well. Thoughts?

Re: If there was a movie? Hmmm, I think he'd be good for Sparhawk. Mostly because SParhawk's almost an anti-hero. He's not young, or cute, or funny. John Malkovich would be an excellent choice.

Re: If there was a movie? Admittedly, that would be the biggest problem with casting someone like Sparhawk. He's not meant to be too good looking (they always mention the broken nose, amongst other things), and when people cast movies like this they tend to pick actors that look to attractive for the part they're meant to play. That said, John Malkovich would be pretty much a great Sparhawk.

Re: If there was a movie? I've been rereading the first series and now I keep hearing Malkovich's voice for Sparhawk. Just that quiet tone, even when he was mad he never yelled in the books. I'm glad to know I'm not the only who can see that role filled by Malkovich. ![]()

Re: If there was a movie? i just don't see John Malkovich being big enough to play the ultimate Pandion Knight. Sparhawk is not described as being Ulath sized, or even as big a Tynian, but John Malkovich is a bit weedy to play a warrior of Sparhawk's skill and reputation. Sparhawk is NEVER described as unattractive. In fact i always think of him as a more Mel Gibson-ish type, just with the broken nose to take away the total Knightly Package that Bevier has. Not that i'm suggesting Mel Gibson as Sparhawk mind you. He's far too old now. tho in the late 80s early 90s he'd have been ideal. Now tho... possibly Eric Bana or oooh brainstorm... james purefoy. Both are older, but not too old. good looking but not pretty, and purefoy has been in several roles that are similar. Please no-one suggest Viggo for Sparhawk... Please i'm begging... talk about the worst actor ever.

Re: If there was a movie? Actually Sparhawk is often referred to as being unattractive, he's called ugly, battered and sometimes even compared to his horse. I've read two copies of the paperbacks into tatters, but I'll pull up some quotes. Malkovich can play big, he played a very convincing Lennie in Of Mice and Men and that was a character who possessed brute strength. And to me he would capture 'battered' very well. As for Viggo .... I would hope he's kept away from any main roles. Give him something like Perraine if he must be in it.

John Malkovich is 6'1" according to the IMDB. He also has a presence that would do Sparhawk really well. Sort of brooding and 'hidden depth'-y. I think Mr Purefoy'd be good as Bevier tho. Mel Gibson... hmm... I can see him as Vanion, maybe, or the Genidian Preceptor (mindblank) with a bit of CGI wizardry. | |
