Lol, HH!

Assuming it's true, then I don't know whether it's something picked up from the books, or just natural!

Re: If there was a movie?

Polgara - Catherine Zeta Jones. (Although i did imagine Aunt Pol to be a bit older)

Belgarath - Oliver Reed (What a shame)

Hmm.. I'm really not sure about Garion, I see what you mean with Heath Ledger but he's too old!

Re: If there was a movie?

Do you mean Lucy Lawless? I always thought of her playing Mirtai from the other series. I guess it's the role of Xena that puts that to mind.

Re: If there was a movie?

If we're doing Elenium/Tamuli, I'd like Ioan Griffudd for Bevier. Or on toast with butter, for that matter.

What about Seven of Nine (can't remember real name) for Velvet?

Derek Jacobi for Aldur. (He was a senator in Gladiator)

we need some new Eddings threads, EdFans! Any ideas?

Re: If there was a movie?

How about picking our favorite fan fictions or artwork for a new thread? Or maybe, sequels we'd like to see for the series?

I do like Ioan Griffudd for Bevier! Never thought of him, but whoa! Perfect casting HappyHippo!

Re: If there was a movie?

Oh man, I can't believe I registered just to post on this message board
But I've just been re-reading the Belgariad (for the 100th time) and I've spent a while thinking about this so i couldn't help myself haha.

I think the actors should at least resemble the physical description of the characters, and they should have suitable personalities (or be sufficiently skilled at acting so they can fake it). But everybody knows that certain actors play certain roles better than others. So my decisions have been well thought out to include the physical appearance and my interpretation of the characters. (please don't rub it in my face that these actors would blow the budget of any film, this is just speculation anyway)

Polgara: Angelina Jolie or Lucy Lawless. Pol has long dark hair, blue eyes, is tall, and has a "don't mess with me" personality but also a softer side. It's pretty hard to match.

Durnik: Brad Pitt - because I'm sentimental haha! Have to admit, I don't really connect with the character well so I'm not sure who could play Durnik

Garion: Hayden Christensen (almost purely based on his looks.. i can't think of anyone else young enough + who could be the innocent farmboy as well as the Rivan King with the blazing sword)

Ce'Nedra: Lindsay Lohan. before you bite my head off, she's got the auburn hair, the green eyes, and i think she would do the spoiled princess thing quite well.

Belgarath: Ah... so many choices. I must admit I lean towards Sean Connery.

Silk: I think a few people have already mentioned Johnny Depp. Brilliant!!! Would love to see him play this role. I think he's a versatile actor and sometimes he's not given enough credit for being able to play different and complex roles.

Zubrette: i know she's only a minor character but don't you think Scarlett Johansson would play a busty blonde Alorn (who happens to have a brain) really well?

That's all i got for now folks!

Re: If there was a movie?

Belgarath, I have always leaned towards Brian Cox. He can play very scruffy but lovable at the same time.

Re: If there was a movie?

he's a little heavy to play Belgarath... but i'd prefer Brian Cox over Sean Connery any day...

Polgara may have a 'don't mess with me' attitude, but tho i'm an Angelina fan, she would not be right for the role, her features are just to unbalanced for Polgara's utter flawlessness. That said, Lucy Lawless is TOO Xena to play such an important character in our fantasy film. No-One (admit it) would be able to dissociate LL from Xena, and Polgara would suffer. A better option would indeed be Catherine Zeta-Jones. She has the whole look, and the talent.
Polgara is NOT an action character, she is a subtle but irresistable force. Both Angelina and LL would imply action to any director, and would bump Polgara from elegant sorceress to warrior princess...or tomb raider...

Have never thought of Lindsay Lohan for Ce'Nedra, but considering her current behaviour it would not be a stretch to play the most annoying princess in fiction.

Johnny Depp MIGHT be a good Silk, but he's far too good looking for our Prince Kheldar. A good looking spy wouldn't last very long. He's also much too tall. Silk is a truly little person... i'm thinking no more than 5'7".

Scarlett Johannsen would be a good Zubrette... but an actress of her calibre, and looks, would have to be used in a more important role... say Velvet/Liselle or, if a minor role, an important one... Queen Porenn for instance.

Re: If there was a movie?

Scarlett would be a perfect Velvet! She has the perfect combination, I think, to really fit into that role.

For Ce'Nedra sometimes I toyed with the idea of Jamie Pressly.

What about Cate Blanchette for Pol? She can look easily flawless without visable layers of makeup (I don't know .... Zeta-Jones just always to have layers of foundation on) and can play that enternally wise, beautiful, in-control female character without making it camp.

Beyond who we would cast ... who would you pick to DIRECT this movie?
