In which Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy world would you choose to live? I don't know if this has ever been asked here - a short search didn't seem to turn up anything, without looking through the entire board, but, it's a question that was asked today on another forum, and I thought it would make an interesting discussion topic here. So, what world would you choose to live in, of all the worlds you've read? And, if you'd like, tell us why. As for myself ... I'm going to have to think about it for a while, as there's a few worlds that I've found quite appealing. (can't seem to narrow it down to just one) edited to add: I'm leaning towards one of Guy Gavriel Kay's worlds though. Last edited by Riselka; 8th March 2008 at 07:50 PM. Reason: additional info

Re: In which Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy world would you choose to live? Peter F Hamilton's Confederation Universe would be very interesting - I've always liked train journeys.... Otherwise, I'd tend to agree with Rane: the whole point of fantasy worlds is that they are beset by turmoil and danger. (I've always wanted to fly a snowspeeder.....but i think that's a different thread) s

Re: In which Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy world would you choose to live? For me, it is a really tough call. Middle Earth, if I was an elf (and that way I wouldn't need the non-existent medical care), and then I could always build a boat and go to Valinor. Although life in the Shire looks very, very pleasant: "You can have your fancy ales, you can drink them by the flagon, but the only brew for the lad that's true -- comes from the Green Dragon!" (sorry for any liberties with the lyrics) Athera, after Arithon and Lysaer make up and defeat Desh-Thiere once and for all, etc. and so on (they are not there yet), because I'd like to hear the sunchildren sing, and see the unicorns gallop on Daon Ramon. Fionavar looks like a lovely neighbourhood now that the resident evil has been eradicated... Post-thread Pern might be nice, but only because I would really, really, really like to impress a dragon. What a great companion to have. Big grocery bill, though.

Re: In which Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy world would you choose to live? Oh, I completely agree about post-Thread Pern - that would definitely be high on my list. And who wouldn't want to Impress a dragon? ![]() Other than that, I rather like the Six Duchies region in Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy. I may have to give this one further thought. ![]()

Re: In which Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy world would you choose to live? It would definitely be a SF world, since that’s what I read primarily. I can’t imagine life without hot showers. I’ll have to think some more about which one. Some danger and adventure elements would be fine with me, as long as there are adequate creature comforts.

Re: In which Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy world would you choose to live? my answer: ITS TOO HARD TO CHOOSE! also - dragon+barrel of water = hot water barrel+high up+many holes = falling water put the two together and you get a shower powered by dragon!

Re: In which Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy world would you choose to live? I think dragons would be better than natural gas, electricity, etc., because they would not be as great an impact on global warming. The barrel better be metal, though.

Re: In which Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy world would you choose to live? would depend on dragon species - if its one with inner fire (i.e. always very very warm) then you jsut have to set the barrel next to them!
