strange question - please help!

I remember reading a book some time ago about a man who was hired to be a security guard at a party but was really hired as a fighter. There was a girl in it that might have been a werewolf or something like that. I know that this is a bit vague but I really don't remember what the book was! I think it's a fairly well known book and I know I enjoyed it - I just can't remember what it was or who wrote it. Can anyone help?!

Ooh! Could it be "Monarch of the Glen" by Neil Gaiman? It is a novella which is a sort of sequel to his novel "American Gods." It appeared in an anthology called "Legends II," and then in Neil's own anthology "Fragile Things." The main character, Shadow, gets hired to be a security guard at a party in Scotland. At first he thinks it's a regular party, but then various fantastical characters surface and moderate mayhem ensues. Shadow has to become more than just a security guard. I believe there are some wolf-like characters. It's a short story so I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but you should check it out!

Re: strange question - please help!

Thank you thank you thank you! That's exactly what it is. I read it in the Legends anthology. I couldn't figure why I'd read this one story and couldn't remember the author or the rest of the series. I guess that's what happens when you read a whole heap of short stories / novellas at the same time!
Thanks again
