I will start of with a bit of a statement, but it does eventually turn into a question, so bear with me. I enjoy reading. It is one of my favourite past times. However I have a limited budget, so I don't tend to buy as many books as I would like. So I tend to stick to Authors that I know I love. However, for the Authors I do collect, I tend to like to collect their complete works. One of the authors that I do collect is Janny Wurts, both novels, and collections of short stories in which their work is featured. Now I believe I am up to date with her series. However, I know I am missing all of the short stories, as well as her stand alone novels. Could someone please let me know what Janny Wurts books, and collections containing her work, am I missing? This is a List of what I currently have collected to date: The Cycle of Fire Book 1 Stormwarden Book 2 Keeper of the Keys Book 3 Shadowfane In collaboration with Raymond E Feist, the Empire (or Kelewan) Trilogy Book 1 Daughter of the Empire Book 2 Servant of the Empire Book 3 Mistress of the Empire The Wars of Light and Shadows (WoLaS) Volume 1 The Curse of the Mistwraith Volume 2 The Ships of Merior Volume 3 Warhost of Vastmark Alliance of Light Book 1: Fugitive Prince Alliance of Light Book 2: Grand Conspiracy Alliance of Light Book 3: Peril's Gate Alliance of Light Book 4: Traitor's Knot Alliance of Light Book 5: Stormed Fortress and that is all I have. I tend to stick to series as they have a larger scope for plot complexity and character development. Now I have heard vague rumours of stort story anthologies featuring stories set in Athera (WoLaS), but don't know what the stories are called, or the titles of the anthologies. Can anyone help me out here? Also there are various stand alone novels. Does anyone know if the stand alones novels are as good as her series? What are they about? Are they good, great, bad, rush out and buy new from a bookstore, or wait until I find it going cheap secondhand? Peoples likes and dislikes about any of these books would also be appreciated. Something like: One of the reasons I like the WoLaS books because the idea of a interplanetry humanity exiled to a single world, where the abide by suffrance under the terms of the Compact intrigues me. Can't wait to see how the conflict between the Drake's binding of the Fellowship of Seven (to ensure the survival of the paravian races) and the Fellowship's Compact with the Paravian races (which grants the survivors of humanity permission to dwell on Athera) is eventually resolved. Gotta go, Thanks

Re: Janny Wurts publications list well you have a way to go yet: Titles in Print a well constructed list of book - detailing both in print and out of print ( one of the best lists I have seen in a while for ) As for the stand alone novels I have only read To Ride Hell Chasm, but can say that it is definatly well worth the read (and the only book being stocked in the highstreet bookstors - along with traitor knot ( course they only sell book 4 not hte rest!))

Re: Janny Wurts publications list Overread posted a really excellent link. Sorcerer's Legacy and The Master of Whitestorm are the other stand-alone novels that Wurts did earlier in her career, and both are really good. It is interesting to look back at her earlier work to see how her skills have developed. As far as short stories, try this link: Short Stories Both this link and Overread's are from the Janny Wurts website, which is one of the best author websites that I have ever come across. Note that for each short story, the book in which it is published is also listed, so that should help you to track them down.

Re: Janny Wurts publications list One of her latest stand-alone books is To Ride Hell's Chasm. Thoroughly enjoyed it although the hero was reminiscent of Arithon. He also reminded me of Francis Crawford from Dorothy Dunnett's The Lymond Chronicles.

Re: Janny Wurts publications list It's probably listed in the Paravia link listed by Overread above, but she added a short story last year to the WoLAS saga called Child of Prophecy, published as part of a compilation called "Masters of Fantasy" (Baen is the publisher) and, as with all her stuff, is worth the read.

Re: Janny Wurts publications list Haven't read all her stand-alone novels, but I have read: To Ride Hell's Chasm - if you like WOLAS you will like this. Master of Whitestorm - I love this book. The hero is a bit of a proto-Arithon but in a good way. Very good story, well paced, well written, well plotted, well characterised.

Re: Janny Wurts publications list Mykkael, the main character in To Ride Hell's Chasm, doesn't really remind me of Arithon very much at all. He is a tough, scarred veteran fighter, not a musician or a bard or a mage or a crown prince. Yes, he is marginalized by the racial and social prejudices of the Sessalians, as Arithon is on Athera by the propaganda of the townborn alliance of light, but even their marginalization is different. The two are hardly similar at all. Three other titles to add, Dekket, as forthcoming publications under The Wars of Light and Shadow: Sword of the Canon: Initiate's Trial Sword of the Canon: Destiny's Conflict ARC V (as yet untitled, predicted to be one book)

Re: Janny Wurts publications list There be a new short story out soon. On her website, Janny just reported finishing it, save for some polishing. Something in an anthology about cats... I'm a dog person myself, but have met a few nice cats (emphasis on "few").
