"Creature" Dies

Ben Chapman, the decorated Marine who served in the Korean war before playing the part of the Creature from the Black Lagoon in the 1954 film has died at age 79. More info at:

Thanks for bringing this one in... I've always had an especial fondness for the Creature... unusually sympathetic character for the "monsters" of that particular period, and with an interesting set of subtexts to the films....

The first film was incredibly well shot - Speilberg has said many of the shots Arnold came up with were used in Jaws
