Compare and contrast with last year's... McDevitt again in novels, after winning last year. And being nominated the year before.

Does anyone still take any notice of the Nebulas?

(edit: gah. Awards, not wards...)

Re: Nebula Wards Shortlist 2008

Well, with Black Man and Brasyl both missing from the list, it's presumably not meant to be taken very seriously? Although having said that, I can never work the Nebula's nomination period. It seems to be fairly confusing, so I guess both books may have scraped out after the nomination period ended.

And no, people really don't pay the Nebulas much attention any more. Truth be told, the Hugos aren't really that well-respected any more, but at least they are voted on by the people (albeit for a price) and there are hopes that they can change with the times to become more relevant, whilst the Nebulas retain the reputation of being fairly elitist and out of touch with the general opinions of SF&F readers.

Re: Nebula Wards Shortlist 2008

Nebula i agree fully is elitist and out of touch with SF&F readers.

The nebula nomination period is also uncessasary complicated and make it even hard to care for a award that awards and nominates books older than one year.

Lame that 2006 books can win in 2008.
